Custom Magnaflow Cat-back exhaust

7 Attachment(s)
I thought I'd share my custom fully mandrel bent exhaust I had made.

Parts list:
Magnaflow 12265 main muffler
Magnaflow 18146(10426) resonator (edit: the 18146 blew out in a matter of weeks and was replaced with 10426, the 10426 was a huge improvement! Update: The 10426 lasted about a year, and that POS went into the trash. Now I'm just running some off brand stainless resonator and it works just fine. Better than a blown out Magnaflow resonator.)

I had the shop remove my complete exhaust. They installed a doughnut flange with a 2.5" exit. Did a full 2.5" cat-back from the flange all the way out the back. When I got home a used high temp primer and high temp paint to paint it all up to prevent corrosion. I first had them cut the resonator out of the factory front pipe, so the keen-eyed will notice that is missing.

Its a bit too quiet for my liking, but once I get a header and over pipe I'm sure it will be better. It passes the girlfriend and LA police test. It's really quiet, just a tad louder than stock. I'll try to get some video's up this weekend.
My GF said it was significantly faster above 6k RPM, so with myself included, that's two butt dynos that show improvement. Either way, it sounds better than stock and looks better IMO, so I'm happy.

P.S. The first pic is of the stock resonator. It's 2.5" ID and perforated core. The stock pipe from the front pipe to the resonator is 2.5", it necks down to 2.25" after the resonator. If I was to do it again I would go from the stock resonator back and save even more cash, and it would probably sound better with the stock resonator which is light years better than the glasspack Magnaflow I used as a resonator.
I'm most likely going to cut out the glasspack and replace it with a Dynomax Bullet presilencer. Those things are bullet proof and just magic. I used them on my NA rotary track car builds.

W/o further ado.

It's also mounted pretty high up in order to facilitate the future adaptation of a rear diffuser.

Congrats looks good. I had a hard time deciding on a cat back so I went the same route. Same muffler just a little different on the bends, but I really like the sound. Only complaint is tips are a little harder to find (2.5 to 3.5+)for the rear since the cutouts in the rear bumper almost require a 3.5+ inch tip to not get lost in the space. I opted out with 4 inch tips but 4.5 would've filled it in better. I went 2.5 from the overpipe back no resonators or cats except the stock one in the header and not too loud and no drone until high way speeds but nothing unbearable at all.

Look forward to seeing your choice of tips.

I have the same, near identical setup... custom built Magnaflow CB. Now that I've had the exhaust on the car for a while now - the sound is near perfect to my ears.

Deep rumble on idle and opens up to a nice race-car like wail on WOT. I'm also running the UEL OFHeader for the creamy burble Subie fans adore...

:burnrubber:

No tips for me. I'm keeping it this way... for now. It looks really aggressive. I have them raked up at a bit of an angle.

I plan on getting a EL header. I hate the broken boxer sound. I prefer the sound of an equal length header, besides that, they work better.

Lol for now will be alot sooner then you think.

I think what made me get tips sooner rather then later was the fact that I had a rear diffuser installed which made the tipless pipes look even smaller.

I'm more performance driven so UEL never drew my attention. I had been waiting so long for the Tomei EL headers that just after I changed my mind to going turbo,
they announced their release on the the forums:sigh:

Would like to see what headers you go with in the future just because I plan on running this setup on my brothers car and it would be nice to have something similar to reference to.

And my other mods are as follows:
K&N panel filter
Modded snorkel
Super Tek intake pipe

UPDATE: Do not use the magnaflow glass pack as a resonator. The internal core is 2.25" even though it's a 2.5" "Muffler," and 5 months after install it is completely blown out.
I am replacing it with a Magnaflow 10426 which is a steel wool wrapped perforated core with glass packing. The 18146 that I used was just glass packed and all the glass has already blown out.

Now that I have a header the exhause sounds pretty awesome, witht he exception of time when there are large amounts of overlap. The overlap makes the exhaust super tinny. There is no drone, but the rasp is terrible.

Once I get the 10426 installed I'll update with pictures and a new video.

For those interested, I'm running the Skunk2 equal length header, and I absolutely love it. It completely changed how the car drives for the better.

Fixed.

Note to self: don't use that app for video editing anymore; the sound is waaayyyy off... Also, I should use something other than my tablet for these things. I should buy a camera...

What exhaust are you running? I love the way my car sounds. My tablet doesn't have a good enough mic to really pick up the sound. I need a gopro.
