BASELINE DYNO . . . . . . . . . . . SUPERCHARGED DYNO

DarrenDriven 05-21-2012 09:58 PM

Put my deposit down at Gresham Scion in late February for my Asphalt FR-S.

Got my VIN a couple of days ago and I actually located my car stashed at the Portland Toyota port, along with other Portland area cars that have been processed.

The car will be coming with BeSpoke audio and the rear trunk mat. Immediate future plans include coilovers or springs, some new wheels, tinted windows, HIDs and probably debadging.

terrypm 05-21-2012 10:04 PM

Based on my experience not to many people have an idea what a Scion is.

DarrenDriven 05-21-2012 10:05 PM

Yeah, but I want them to have NO idea. My SC430 was debadged (back in the day) and I would get some really random guesses. It's just fun that way. I'll just stick some Maserati badges on it and fool 99% of the people all of the time, haha!

merlin2111 05-21-2012 10:09 PM

Just say no to badges and say NO NO to wrong badges. Great looking car. How long till you start throwing mods at it? I am impatiently waiting to see some build threads.

DarrenDriven 05-21-2012 10:13 PM

Hahaha... I wouldn't really put Maserati badges on it, just saying it would be funny. I did debadge my GTO and put Batman emblems on it... that was pretty amusing. I was embarrassed that it was a Pontiac, though. I feel like I should apologize to Bruce Wayne.

I'll start modding immediately. I don't wait around. Turbo or supercharger will go on as soon as I find one I like.

For the first mods I want a Five Axis rear spoiler, mud guards and fog lights.

What about Autobot badges? I kid.

Not going to lie... That pic the trunk looks like it could use some paint correction. Lots of orange peel around the lic plate. Have the same color on the way.

Theres lots of orange peel in the factory paint to begin with.

I did a 2 step polish this past weekend and it evened it out a bit, though it is still noticeable.

Those Pontiacs (Holden's) were so cool, but unfortunatley didn't sell well. The G8 was also a beautiful car.

Lonewolf 05-22-2012 12:16 PM

I'm sensing a theme with all of your cars...:w00t:

The new age GTO was a sweet car...too bad it got such a lukewarm reception with its first run in 2004

I really wish the G8 was still around, I looked long and hard and getting one...maybe it will return to civilians as the Caprice...:burnrubber:

DarrenDriven 05-22-2012 01:48 PM

I bought the car immediately after a six week solo backpacking adventure in Australia. I really wanted a G8 GXP (Holden Commodore) but didn't want to drop $40,000 on a Pontiac. In fact, I got rid of mine because the stigma of driving a Pontiac, even a 450hp (chipped, intake, exhaust) Pontiac, was just too much to handle.

The Commodore is COMING TO AMERICA!!!

Haha, oh yeah, lately I've been into black. I keep telling myself no, but somehow I keep doing it anyway. It wasn't always that way.

PERRIN_Chris 05-22-2012 02:14 PM

I bet you're excited man!

DarrenDriven 05-22-2012 02:17 PM

This is only the second brand new car I have ever bought (after my 1997 Civic) so yes, I am actually very excited. I have owned faster cars, costlier cars, but lately I have been burned out with driving cars that are just not much fun to drive. Although I have still yet to drive an FR-S, the reviews alone have me itching to get behind the wheel. Plus, having my car sitting behind the fence nearby is driving me crazy! June 1st can't come fast enough!

Agreed, looks a lot better.

Prava 05-23-2012 04:19 PM

Def debadging the FR-S emblem. I'll wait and see if I want to keep the Scion emblems. I don't have a problem with Scion, I'm just more of a Toyota fan than I am with Scion. I can't wait to see what you do with the car once you boost it!

DarrenDriven 05-23-2012 04:22 PM

I'm not gonna go crazy on the boost... I want something reliable from a reputable manufacturer. I don't want to have to build the engine, just a kick in the pants. I went with GReddy turbo on my S2000 and it wasn't crazy power, just enough to beat almost every other S2000 out there. :)

I'll probably until this Winter to install forced induction. The car will be garaged anyway during the worst weather, and by then the aftermarketers should have had time to bring out their kits. I would like to go supercharged, but it always seems that turbo is just a better value. We'll see.

mines13 05-23-2012 04:50 PM

DRAGLAB Econoline? lol. I remember that forum from like 2000ish, when I was living in Tacoma.

DarrenDriven 05-23-2012 05:12 PM

Yup. nwstreetracing.com, draglab.com and scionlife.com were all my creations. The NWSR and DragLab days were pretty awesome... all Honda crazy and night races. I miss them... but we all have to grow up sometime, right? (nah!)

DarrenDriven 05-30-2012 01:46 PM

My FR-S hit Gresham Scion late last night and they are prepping it right now. I am going down there to pick it up at 1pm. Wahoo! Man, I am SOOOOO excited!!!!

PERRIN_Chris 05-30-2012 01:52 PM

DarrenDriven 05-31-2012 03:00 AM

I picked her up at about noon today and just parked her safely in the garage. 11 miles at delivery, 100 miles at the end of the day. What a great car!

Yeah, I have offered other FR-S or BRZ owners in the Portland area use of the garage:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7110

There are two Ferraris in the background, the 458 Italia you can see, and an F430 Spyder. They are owned by the family that owns Gran Turismo, the US's oldest operating Ferrari dealership which is here in Portland. Nice cars!

PERRIN_ADAM 06-01-2012 02:23 AM

Ok bouncing back a bit within the thread, but the DragLab Van suddenly flashed me WAY back! Some good times back then! Still great to see all of us still in some form of the same game! Thanks for memory man!

Now back to drooling over your new car ! ;-)

blu_ 06-01-2012 02:43 AM

What's gonna be the first mod?

CSSM 06-01-2012 02:52 AM

Awesome car! I saw a 6mt Asphalt FR-S at a local dealer today and it looked great. I've seen that Ferrari 458 driving up I5 through Eugene. It goes to Cars and Coffee in south Portland.

johk 06-01-2012 10:40 AM

Congrats on the car and I'm jealous of your garage!

In mine I can barely fit my GTI and open the fridge which against the rear wall (the FR-S is ~1 inch longer).

Can't wait to get my Asphalt 6mt FR-S!

DarrenDriven 06-01-2012 12:06 PM

Adam! Long time no see! I should stop by the shop, haven't been out there forever.

blu_, I already debadged the rear and have suspension on the way. Researching tint shops and I am planning to smoke the tails. I'd also like to black out the chrome inside of the headlights, but I have never done that before so I am going to look for someone who could help me.

CSSM, I think that the Tonkin family lives in my condo building because they have an entire stable of cars here with Tonkin plate frames.

johk, my man cave is something I've always wanted and I'm looking forward to hanging out with some other FR-S/BRZ guys in there this summer as we mod our rides.

THANK YOU for stopping by today! I felt terrible that I wasn't there to say HI! So now it's on me to make time to meet up with you! Maybe come out to your garage one night with some other BRZ / FRS peeps!

Have a great weekend and chat soon!

DarrenDriven 06-02-2012 02:55 AM

Sounds good. I need one of those front license plate kits, haha, so my visit wasn't entirely nostalgic. The shop you've got now is pretty legit! Talk to you soon, man.
