Randium Engineering Oil Catch Can with lil bit of DIY & Review

Like I’ve stated, I went to Radium Engineering oil catch can. Thanks to Titan Motorsports for getting one really quickly. Went to Home Depot and bought these items: 1 aluminum bar 2 M6 bolts 2 Washers 2 Nuts 1 Rubber protector Cut the aluminum bar into the size I need, prime & paint it. http://ichitakaproject.files.wordpre...0022.jpg?w=650 Here’s a closer look. I’ve attached it to here: http://ichitakaproject.files.wordpre...0291.jpg?w=650 This is one of battery tie bar (front side). I’ve added washers & nuts to tie it firmly, so it won’t wiggle around. Closer pic: http://ichitakaproject.files.wordpre...0034.jpg?w=650 It fit like a glove. It was close to rubbing the strut wall, so I’ve added rubber between the wall and bar, just to be on safe side. Now, where did I connect the other side with? Like this: http://ichitakaproject.files.wordpre...0038.jpg?w=650 It’s kinda hard, but it’s the bolt that hold sound generator. If you have that taken out, it’ll be really easy to install this part. Sadly, I forgot to paint this one… BUT I painted the spare one & planning to install it tomorrow. I try to twist off the dip stick… but I couldn’t twist it off with my bare hand. I had to use 9mm to twist it off. From the looks of it, it wasn’t perfectly matched with catch can and caused this issue. I wasn’t planning to use that dip stick, so it wasn’t an issue for me. If it is for you, double check EVERYTHING before you start installing them. I have the dual setup. I've had it for about 1200 miles now. I decided to keep it in its original location. I drain it by removing the bracket and catch can as a whole. 2 10mm bolts and an allen screw. Pretty easy. In all honesty, the allen screw isn't really needed as as the 2 bolts hold it in quite well without vibrations.
As far as performance goes, nothing really all that noticeable. When I changed my oil the other day, I drained the cans and they had about half a teaspoon's worth of oil. So they are doing their job properly. If anything, you're getting cleaner air in the engine, and preventing any long term carbon buildup in the valves and pistons. I really like it since it's tucked away and looks pretty stock. |

Good write-up and nice job on that one off bracket!
Question though, is draining that much of an issue? I'm not planning on having to drain my cans until I put it away for the winter, and even then I'm not expecting much more than a bit of oil at the bottom. |

my current diy can the method won't work with , but in the past on cans with direct vertical access and no baffling blocking the liquid its been golden it was also a really big syringe i had gf get from her work, like sausage sized |

You'd probably want to drain it at least(the very least) every oil change. I drain mine once a month, especially on the crankcase vent can just to see how much blow by gets through. PCV side will always have some oil in there. I wouldn't let the oil build up too high... Remember, air goes through there and sloshed the oil that's already in there. If the oil level is too high, there's a potential for the oil to coat the walls of the can enough that it can be carried by the air passing through, back to the intake system. Highly unlikely, but the possibility exists. |

For those with the breather side Radium can (the one that mounts on the driver side and goes to the intake boot), are you getting any oil there? I've caught a lot of oil on the PCV side can especially after a track day but none one the breather side yet, even though I am supercharged.
