engine swap

i had a scion frs that i recently blew the engine and was thinking about rebuilding it again. what engine you guys think i should put? would a 2jz be a good idea and would that match the tranny and the cpu to it?

Battle86 05-26-2014 03:26 AM

Damn how'd you blow it?

CN9Adaiski 05-26-2014 03:32 AM

How about a Lexus LFA 4.8-litre V10 engine?

Let me guess, spun bearing? Why do you want to swap? If you don't go with a FA20 you should 22RE swap it. Everyone will hate you and then realize you just built the most reliable FRS in the world.

i put turbo kit on it and then stepped it till 7000rpm it worked fine at first then when i tried it again it blew..:(

Sorry to hear you blew your engine, I had a couple of questions as well, What turbo kit did you have and was it tuned?

I'd second a 2JZ option :)

brz_star21 05-28-2014 05:47 AM

I'd add my vote to a 2JZ. The 22RE you'd probably want to do really if you had the extra parts lying around or just wanted to be different. Sorry, just my opinion but the fact is the 2JZ has more options available. :bellyroll:

Either way you go (totally different engine swap or built FA20) be prepared to spend some $$$. Keep in mind the 2JZ, EJ2x, 22RE, etc. is not a straight bolt-in affair so I hope you know some reputable fabricators/car builders/tuners to do the job right.

Although I love the 2JZ-GTE. I would say get a built FA20 back into the car. Then you can really feel more safe about putting down some power and playing with other cars on the road.

The RB20DET is also a nice little power plant.

By who?

I would say swap in another FA20 instead of going with another engine. Not entirely sure, but from what I saw, it looked liked you had to cut metal out of the engine bay to fit the 2JZ motor inside. Not surprising since the FA20 is smaller than a 2JZ. The 2JZ swap will need a lot of modification.

So yeah I vote FA20 lol
