Realistically, how difficult will it be to get one this year?

I'm in SoCal, and I really want one of these, but I'm kinda worried that the availability will be far too limited.

Won't be hard at all. My local dealership has no preorders. If you want one now, go preorder one. Im sure the list isn't as long as the one at the Subaru dealership.

Should be very easy to get one. There are at least 999 scion\toyota dealers in the States. Scion said they were going to have 10k units sold by November. That is plenty of FR-S to go around. Even all the Subaru dealers are not sold out of their allocations.

Yup, give it a month or two and you should be able to find one. You may have to put a little effort in and search outside your area or state. But they won't sell all of these as soon as they come off the trucks.

As the others have said, there will be plenty on lots within the next month. You just have to be willing to look and perhaps drive a bit.

I think its just some shady dealerships that are trying to make this seem ultra limited because of the hype so they can charge you mark up. But once it officially goes on sale it'll just be like buying any other scion.

There's a dealer local to me that has one unspoken for already on the East Coast. You should have no trouble getting one.

Most Southern California dealers are starting to or have been taking 500 dollar refundable deposit now. Right now, the wait seems to be about 1-2 months, but that will become much longer when June 1st hits and TV Commercials and more positive reviews, as well as first batch of cars start to roam the streets...

So my suggestion is to put a deposit in so you can secure a incoming inventory. There are 2800 or so per month allocated for the USA of which about 3/4 are Scion and 1/4 are Subaru BRZ, and divide that by 90+ dealers in the USA, it's not much, that's about 3-20 per Scion dealer, depending on thier performance.

You will definitely be able to get one. No doubt about it. Too lazy to write paragraphs of why I support this.

Much longer? Hopefully much shorter :)

I think it could equally go the other way and that the hype would die down like Facebook stock. It's all just speculation and i'm interested to see what happens. You're right though. Toyota hasn't turned on their marketing machine for this vehicle yet and the 2nd wave of buyers might still be coming.

Still hanging out on the sidelines for now...

I might put a preorder in for the heck of it, but I'm sure there'll be plenty around.

White will probably be hard to find, but that's it.

I'd be very surprised if the car was sold out everywhere.

Dark_Angle 05-21-2012 02:59 PM

CRAIGSLIST!!! THERE IS A TON OF THEM ON THERE.

tripjammer 05-21-2012 03:09 PM

It's a $25,000 Scion! There will be plenty of these cars to go around.
Even the BRZ will not be that hard to find and buy.

TOMIMOTO 05-21-2012 03:12 PM

A dealer right near me has two for sale. I can go buy it and take it home tonight.

It won't be hard.
