Coil Overs for DD/ Spirited driving
 
Hey guys,
Looking for a decent set of coils for the BRZ, want it a bit lower to get rid of that wheel gap, and to stiffen the ride up for spirited driving. My DD commute at the moment is 5km so not very far, but I do cruise around every weekend. I want to go coils because I'll need to raise the car up during the winter so I don't become a snow plow.
Any Canadians with any long term or insight would be nice too!

What kind of drop are you looking for? i'm really partial to higher end stuff (ohlins, JRZ, etc) because to a certain extent, you get what you pay for. I did drive a lowered s2k (Ohlins R/T) in snowy bc conditions for 3 years, and didn't feel the need to lift the car up during the winter, good tires make up the difference.

I'm more worried about chunks of snow/ice breaking any of the bumper and stuff. Looking for about 1"-1.5" to sit nice and flush with the wheels

fair enough, where i was the roads where very well taken care of so i didn't have to worry too much about that kind of stuff, i would use the search button and just look up reviews, i'm not really too much help unless you want to double your budget. there are some popular lower priced ones but names are escaping me right now. :cheers:

Ohlins R&T are probably what i would recommend because thats what i will have/ have had on my old car. you'd just be over 1" of lowering with them maxed out.

Okay perfect, the place I buy my stuff from tells me bad things about brands they don't sell all the time lol so I'm not sure if I should call BS or not

I have the BC Extreme Drop, I'm lowered about 2 1/4" on stock wheels. I'll raise it once I get wheels. I have the 8K spring rates and I don't have complaints. Ride is a little bumpy, but calming to me in the same aspect.

I know I see comparisons a lot between some and a lot of people seem to want to choose the Fortune Auto's.

If your main goal is DD and occasional spirited driving, and Maybe an AX or track day, I'd look at the ST coilovers.

Do a search, first you need to find what your application is, but if DD use, not too stiff, with improved handling, and non adjustable, with ability to lower your car, you can't beat the ST coilovers for the money ($800).

They are the same as KW V1 (ST is made by KW) just the shock case material is plated instead of stainless (slightly less corrosion resistant).

ST's spring rates are 5K and 6K, stiffer than stock, but not as stiff as most of the other coilover kits. On my car the ride is great, not too stiff, perfect for what I wanted.

Okay I'll look into those. I don't mind too stiff, I had BWR's on my 2000 DX hatcback and those were pretty damn stiff lol

Durability, longevity, reliability and quality for a DD should be a big factor. I would pic Stainless Steel built coilovers with a long lasting coating - in your budget, B14, KW V1 or RCE T0 :)

I was doing research on google..and I found one review of KW's after 5 year of use...still looked almost new, absolutely zero corrosion or rust on the bodies, very excellent condition. Stainless and their INOX coatings truly work.

Thanks, I guess I should look into stainless due to salt and stuff on the roads throughout winter.. Unless I just swap out coils for the stocks every winter :iono:
