Engine sound past 4k rpm
Hello,
I didn't really know how to look up this question, all my searches came up kinda blank so here it goes: I noticed that when the engine revs past 4k rpm, the sound it makes changes, I feel like it is distinctly 'higher'. It reminds me of Honda's vtec but not nearly as pronounced. I have Perrin's tune, a Perrin Catback, and a Perrin intake - wondering if it has anything to do with this. Since in one of the emails they sent me, it mentioned adding degrees of timing. Any ideas? I don't really remember what the car sounded like when it was stock... Thanks! |
It's most likely the more aggressive VVT mapping used by tuners to combat the torque dip. I'm not a huge fan of the raspy noise it adds personally but until I get headers and a new tune I'm putting up with it.

I have the stock tune and perrin intake, inlet hose, overpipe, front pipe, and catback. Just took my car for a spirited driving session, and it sounds like the way you describe. I guess it's normal.

It's just vtec kicking in yo'
All jokes aside I don't think you have anything to worry about :) |
Yeah I'm tuned too with an aftermarket intake and past 4k the intake sound is pretty loud. It's just the tune. Completely normal

Even on a stock car, the sound changes. It's simply VVT. In all honesty, it's the same concept of vtec, just goes about it a different route
|
On my car the sound is definitely more pronounced with the tune, but it definitely made it stock too.

With the perrin intake you're definitely going to notice the sound change on a tune with aggressive VVT.

The Perrin CAI itself is really loud at 4k RPM. Don't forget with that you removed every resonator that the stock intake had. It's definitely loud and perfectly normal.

No but for REAL, it IS the V-TEC kicking in....
I have it set at 4200 RPMs. |
