Styrofoam under passenger carpet?

Well, I plugged my "sound hole" today. (Amazed at how much difference it makes!) When I pulled the carpet back to access to hole, I noticed a piece of styrofoam under the carpet. Just a thermal insulator?

I'm fairly sure that it's just carpet padding. That's what it looks like, anyway.

What is the point in plugging the sound hole?

:respekt:

Less cabin noise. Makes it easier to hear your sexy exhaust.

Dramatically reduces cabin noise.

I do notice a lot of cabin noise in this car. If this is the cause, then when it is plugged do you not hear the exhaust note as much?

The sound tube is pulling engine sound from the intake. Plugging it has no effect at all on the sound of your exhaust, but it will reduce engine sounds transmitted to the cabin.

Am I the only one who likes the induction noise produced by the sound tube?

Nah, I'm a fan of it. If I'm going to hear my car, I would prefer the sound be as close to the place making the power as possible (i.e. the engine). Tired of hearing exhausts.

I love induction noise. Unfortunately, small 4 bangers can't make the same noise as bigger engines. But I prefer the sound of air being sucked in rather than exhaust being blown out.

I'm a fan too. If I plug the hole, it's too quiet.
