Exedy visits SBD to Test Drive the Shop BRZ!
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psp9loxj7q.jpg
Special thanks to Bernie (Vice-President at Exedy Clutch USA) and Dave B. (Sales Consultant for the Midwest Region) for stopping by the shop today to test drive the SBD Turbo BRZ. Exedy, the OEM clutch supplier for the FT86 platform, is very eager to watch the aftermarket progress for these cars and support the aftermarket as needed with solid quality clutch options. I know many of you are currently using their Stage 1 Organic Upgrade, which is made in Japan and has fantastic pedal feel with smooth engagement. They have also released their Stage 2 Ceremetallic, which we will be testing next week in the shop BRZ on our E85 Flex Fuel Mapping. For those needing a max effort drag racing setup, they offer their multi-plate line, which I've used in numerous platforms over the years. I just wanted to post about Exedy's visit today, as I do appreciate their willingness to monitor the aftermarket and insure their products are meeting demand. Link to their 3 current clutch upgrade options for those who may not be familiar: http://www.exedyusa.com/oe/car_make_...ymm_liter=2.0L My Best, Chris Riggs |
looking forward to results on testing the exedy stage2

The stage 1 organic is rated as:
Specs: Disc Size 225mm Spline Teeth / Major Dia 24T / 25.2mm Clamping Force/Load exerted (lbs) 1652 Disc Material Organic Number of Disc Single Type (Push/Pull) Push Sprung Center (D-core) Yes Clutch Torque 319 Torque Capacity at Wheels 203 Torque Capacity at Flywheel 254 Flywheel Weight FF503 Which means those of us that are mildly boosted (I'm running Innovate getting around 205 wheel torque) may need to get the stage 2? Seems like both stage 1 are good for stock levels of power only according to these specs. The stage 2 seems like it may be more severe as it's a 3 puck design? Seems like it would be good for most everyone that's boosted except those that went crazy with power. Specs: Disc Size 225mm Spline Teeth / Major Dia 24T / 25.2mm Clamping Force/Load exerted (lbs) 1652 Disc Material Cushion Button Number of Disc Single Type (Push/Pull) Push Sprung Center (D-core) Yes Clutch Torque 399 Torque Capacity at Wheels 228 Torque Capacity at Flywheel 300 Flywheel Weight FF503 |
The general consensus is that these clutches are horribly under rated. I remember hearing that ptuning is using stage 2 all the way up to 400wtq.

they used the stage 1 up untill they switched the the twin disk for e85 and more boost

The Japanese companies are beyond conservative in their power ratings.
Numerous companies are finding success with their Stage 1. Since we are running E85 and plan to max out our turbo setup, I feel confident the Stage 2 clutch will suffice... We have the Stage 1 going in an employees car with our turbo kit on 91 octane pump gas. Will report back next week once installed in both cars. |
As promised, I wanted to show everyone the latest Stage 2 Clutch Design from Exedy, which is different from their website.
Here's a few pictures I took today, in stock for anyone that has purchased the turbo kit ;) http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psthxday2p.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbu2cuayd.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psdvtw26f3.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psdzt6qn3o.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxhhetgym.jpg |
Finally! Some good pictures of that clutch. Now that I know what it looks like, I know what I am putting in the car once the Stage 1 meets it's end.

Exedy is supposed to be updating their website this week.

I'm dying to find out how the chatter and drivability is with this clutch. I might daily it

ZERO chatter that I have personally seen.
The driving characteristics are near stock, and you'd be hard pressed to find a more stock like drive... |

AWESOME! Do you think I would have any regrets daily drive it? I go through a lot of stop and go traffic

I don't think you'd have any regrets....
I personally don't see that much of a difference over stock. The only difference I can tell is slightly less point of engagement before it grabs...but that's it. |
Have this clutch in my ptuning turbo frs. I chose it specifically because i daily drive my car.
