Open Flash Tablet + E85 = Safe for a STOCK CAR??
 

I have a question regarding using E85 on a STOCK car.

I currently own a STOCK, automatic FR-S.

I just installed the stage 1 tune and while it is a great tune; I really wanted to see what E85 (POWER) was all about.

I read of some people claiming they are running E85 on a stock car, but I read other post saying you shouldn't. When I asked Shiv, he told me that it's not recommended to run stage 2 E85 on a stock car, because stage 2 is for aftermarket headers. (Seems to be the guy to listen too)

However, I do believe there are people still running Stage 2 EL E85 tunes on a completely STOCK car.

In short I created this thread to find out the truth of E85 being used on a stock car. :thanks:

On a side note, those running (stage 2 EL E85) on stock car. Were you also running stage 2 over stage 1 on stock car before E85. I ask all these questions, because I really want to try E85, but I am afraid lol.

Each time you flash a tune it totally erases the previous tune first then writes the new tune and resets ecu. Whatever the previous tune was is totally erased.

When you change to E85 from petrol or petrol to E85 you need to drive slow and easy for first 10 miles or so to allow the other fuel to clear the lines and pumps and wait for the fuel trims to stabilise below 10%. You can use you oft to watch this real time.

I run it, runs totally fine. Bogs sometimes with ac, on but other than that, all my afr's are cool.

You dont need a flex fuel kit to run E85 but it does provide an extra level of safety if you were to fuel up with the wrong fuel the sensor will save you , and it would also save the hassle of having to flash an e85 or petrol tune each rime you changed fuel types.

Without a flex fuel sensor you just need to be carefull and give the car about 10 miles or so and watch fuel trims stabilise before getting aggressive when you change fuels , after flashing the appropiate tune obviously

Having a flex fuel sensor and flex fuel tune is certianly a better option, but if your sensible and take a bit of care you can do e85 without one with rhe appropiate OPEN FLASH TABLET tune.

What should the fuel trim level be at?

I'm running the oft, completely stock other than drop in filter on the el e85 stage 2 tune. It is glorious. Haven't had a single issue or hiccup. It really is worth the switch. Way fun to drive.

I talked to a couple guys at Vishnu before I did it and they all said no issue.

E85 was the first thing I've done to the car, and besides cold stats in below freezing temperatures and decreased fuel economy, it's been great!

Just waiting for my fuel light to kick on lol. I have 1/4 tank left. I'm not an expert on data logging. What should I be looking for, to know it's time to go full blast on E85 lol. I'm going to follow Steve's advice on driving slow for the first 10 min.

Didn't they fix cold starts? Is it really bad?
