GT86 sales and popularity
I bought the GT86 because I thing it looks good and it matched criteria (coupe, four seats, descent trunk, ...). I'm really happy with it.
Since I have it, I've been looking around internet and found loads of tests which all seem to say it's fabulous despite a lack of power. Question is... where are the sales at? Is it selling well enough? Is it popular in the US/UK/AU/? I can say in France you see very VERY few! Mine is the only one I've ever seen on the road (same for all my friends, it's the first time they've ever seen one "in real")! The tests say it's great on the track, but do you see many in races (I don't go to races)? |
In Germany, the twins are on sale since September 2012. They sold a total of 3,991 cars since then (3,584 GT86s and 407 BRZs) as of April 2014.
As a reference, the current VW Golf sold 21,856 units in April 2014 alone (74,282 units in 2014). A friend called the GT 86 an exotic car recently and I have to agree. I see about 10 Porsches per day, but rarely another GT 86 or BRZ in a month. |

Ja, und we eat Sauerkraut each day and wear unwashed Lederhosen.

I think all of the 86's are here in Southern California..aha. But really I see at least 3+ Different 86's a day here.
|
Don't forget about us igloo-living, maple syrup drinking Canadians; we love our 86s too :)

I see em everywhere where I live.

Still, Porsches are not that common a sight here, the run-on-the-mill cars here are usually middle class/hatchback/estate cars. If anybody is interested, here are the statistics of the sales #s of cars in Germany for April: http://www.kba.de/cln_031/nn_1405704...014_04_pdf.pdf |
Sometimes I'll see 3+ a day, other days I won't see any. Last time I was cruising around downtown I saw two other BRZ/FRS on the road... in comparison to the 10+ Porsches rolling around.
Let's keep it that way! |
Socal is where they're all at...I see 2-3 a day and my commute is <10 miles round trip lol. Another fun fact, most of them are white. The 2-3 do not include the owner around the corner from my house or the one parked in my office lot.
Unless those 2-3 are the regulars I've been seeing everyday... |
I live in a small town in Northwestern WA, USA. Bellingham has a population of about 80,000. My next door neighbor's wife has a GT86. I usually see at least one every day on my short commute. There's been a few days when I've seen four of five on the road. Could be because there's a strong Subaru culture here. Could be it's just that this is where they come into the US most often, the West Coast. Not sure, but it's interesting.

I see at least one FR-S/BRZ everyday. On some days I see 3-5. But I really think the only place the car is selling strongly is North America.

I see the occasional 86 around here - maybe one every few weeks - common vehicles they are not, but one expects that. They are niche-market cars. |
