Plugin the sound tube
I know there's loads of info on plugging the sound tube, but none seem to make it real clear if plugging the tube (blocking it with a plug I mean) as any side effect on air admission... is it better to unplug on the motor side ?

Been plugged for 20000 miles. Zero impact.

It won't have any effect on air intake. You don't actually get intake air from the sound tube; there is a diaphragm in the box on the passenger side of the engine that transmits vibrations from intake air to cabin air. So you get sound from the intake, but not air.

OK greate, I'll plug mine as less noise in cabin is better

You can plug the hole in the passenger-side floorboard with a 7/8" plastic plug that costs about $0.79 at Lowe's. Or with the 12V outlet plug in the glovebox for free. If you want to actually remove the sound tube entirely, you need a 1.25" PVC cap for the intake side and a 3/4" plug for the firewall side.

Agreed, much better with the plug. And in the future, if another owner likes the intake sound, he/she can just remove the plug. Think carefully about total removal- it will change (reduce) the volume of the tuned intake, which the engineers made the way it is for technical reasons.

I think they did that to drown out the crickets.

+1 for plugging it for everyday drives, makes a much smoother sound and a quieter cabin (to listen to music etc.) ...
That been said, once in a while I might remove the plug to get the kind of "sporty sound" the tube brings in! Funny the salesman didn't tell me about this, because during the tests I did mention to him the fact that the loud/sporty sound was more a con than a pro in my choice (luckily it didn't put me off and now with the plug it sounds great) |

When I removed the sound tube from my car, I started to notice significantly louder wind noise from my doors/windows. I think I prefer hearing the nice, smooth induction noises in my cabin than the wind when driving 55mph+.

A modified ear plug with a pull wire seemed like a cheap & cheerful solution!Attachment 79474

Not bad the ear plug.... I'm currently printing a custom plug with my solidoodle 3D printer!

That's a fat ear plug. I used 2 to plug mine up with a cap to top it off.
