My car just accelerated by itself wtf

Im about to park so i have my foot on the brake and im letting the car just ride into the parking spot but then all of a sudden my car sort of accelerates forward. It wasnt like a jerk it was more of a legit acceleration I had to slam my brakes or i would of gone on the curb. Has this happen to anybody?

check your floor mat

AT or MT?

I have a manual and I've had this happen to me a few times. I don't know for sure what it is, but I speculate that the engine is at too low an RPM, so the computer gives it more throttle.

Its an automatic. My floor matts are fine. I was just cruising into the parking. Im 100% sure I did not accelerate.

Mine is AT and this never happened.
Maybe you can log throttle position and see if it happens again.
Then you can go sue them if you have valid log perhaps.

Did you down shift into first from second. If so this is normal, especially a low rpms.

That's exactly what I was just thinking. I had it in automatic but I guess its possibly but then again I was in a small parking lot I believe I was already in 1st. But ima keep an eye on it.

At times I've had most of my foot on the brake ..... but a little bit of it accidentally on the gas pedal .... giving me a bit of acceleration ....:bonk:

Was it in sport mode? Apparently the torque converter is much stiffer, and a downshift from 2nd to 1st would probably give the car the a quick 'nudge'.

I had that happen repeatedly in a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, where it was really weird/cramped down there and my feet just didn't fit well. That seems less likely in the FRS unless OP has giant clown feet or something.

This. The engine needs a little throttle between shifts to prevent stalling, especially from 2nd to 1st.
