Can the hole be used to pass an electrical lead through the firewall?

I don't use the sound tube. To open it up, can I just yank on the rubber tube in the engine compartment. I can't get a good enough look down there and can't find a diagram of what is what.

I don't know the answer to your specific question, but does your electrical lead need to go through the passenger side?

That's a built-in pass-through for electrical leads that they put there knowing we would need it. Of course, it's on the other side...

Underneath that second pic, it says:

1. Hose removal

(1) Disconnect the hose.

(2) Release the two clamps and remove the hose from the grommet.

Thanks heaps extrash. I saw that rude rubber bit in the photo but that might require me hanging upside down under the dash which I want to avoid as I always end up with a bad back afterwards. I could be lucky and the lead could drop down. I will try that first.

However, the diagrams make it all clear and I can see there's a plastic bit that goes into the grommet. I could feel it when I poked wire in the hole. Looks as though I can pull it out while making sure the grommet doesn't come out at the same time.

I haven't tried to fish anything through that pass-through yet, but a while back some folks here made the same comment about how difficult it is to access anything behind the dash without doing some weird yoga. When I was installing my aux USB power for my tablet, I just took the lower dash panel completely off to give me room to work. It comes off easily with two or three phillips head screws. Once it's off, you have much better access to just about everything back there, and I suspect it would make it easier to fish a wire through.

Unfortunately I don't have an exploded view of that panel, but it's really easy. Find screws. Unscrew. Pull.

It can be used for passing electrical wires yes i deleted my soundtube since day one and simply yanked it out of the firewall the rest was just a couple of screws until you follow it back to the intake tube and go to home depot get a pvc male block and one of thoses plumbers hex screw tightning clamps to close it off until i baught my aem intake, the hole in the firewall is about 3/4" if i recall and there a rubber ring in there already witch was around the sound tube witch reduses the hole to about half inch and you can keep that there so moisture and water dont come in around your wires. Also other then the puc that @extrashaky showed you there is a little plastic cover between the brake cylinder and the clutch in the engine bay if you remove that you can pass wires to under the driver dash it will come out right under where the steering column comes inside the vehicle, sorry for too much writing to explain one little thing but you will understand if you go look

For everyone's information, what I'm actually doing is installing a front camera which is on the way as we speak. A wireless type is likely to have problems from engine interference so the leads thru the firewall are necessary. I will submit a report eventually.:thumbup:

That "plastic" bit is quite soft and rubbery , easily perforated to poke wiring through and as you say comes out a short distance above the steering column. In the cabin it is concealed by sound deadening which actually has a partial circular cut in it making it easy to access.

After poking the wiring through I will seal with silicone rubber.

There's a corresponding one of these access points over the other side of my firewall but the deadening seems to be glued over it.
