thoughts on this exhaust setup

I know, I know another thread requesting the communities opinions on the ideal setup but I want you to know I put in a valient effort until now. What I am looking for is the cheapest solution to the perfect sound with what I have now.

I currently have the open flash header and cat back invidia q300 exhaust with the remaining parts stock but its not enough for me to get the sound I want. I am looking for more of the UEL rumble but in a respectfully way. About three weeks ago I had the nameless. 5" muffler and it was simply too loud. Sounded fantastic when I puttered around but too loud when I got on it. It may not bother others but I am too old for that behavior I think.

So I am seeking the least expensive route to get back my UEL rumble while keeping the volume respectable. Here is what I had in mind.

Replacing the front pipe with a high flow cat but that could run me roughly $300 after install.

Replacing the cat back with something louder but not louder than the nameless.

Or, sell the q300 and put back the OEM muffler but replace the midpipe with a non resonated piece. I believe Borla sells one that connects to the oem muffler and if I sell the q300 I would make money. I like this option the most but do not know if anyone has this setup and what it will sound like.

Thoughts?

Its always hard to offer advise on noise and sound as its very subjective what is acceptable to one sounds rubbish to another

The resonator cuts down on resonance or drone as some call it has very little restriction hence reason namless just do axleback as they found it was not worth replacing or removing it just made exhaust note raspy.

Leave resonator in

If you go high flow main cat they tend to increase volume quite a bit as well as let through more of the higher frequencys so you would definitly want to leave resonator in and keep your quiet q300 muffler section.

Maybe try high flow cat with current setup if its to loud put back stock muffler and sell q300.

It rearly going to be suck it and see though :-)

Take it to the exhaust shop and remove the resonator on the midpipe whilst running stock cbe, sell the q300 and done.

If you want something between the Nameless and the Q300 you might Look at the Perrin 2.5" resonated. I have the UNresonated Perrin and it sounds amazing, but the volume might be a bit too much for your tastes (especially with the header). The resonated version sounds very similar, just more toned down.

Here's a couple of comparison vids, first one with res, second one w/o. You'll have to insert the UEL rumble with your imagination.

Whatever you do, don't remove the resonator from the oem mid-pipe. All that will accomplish is to make it sound worse. The oem axle-back will never sound very good either, better to stick with the Q300. I tried keeping the oem AB but it didn't sound very good. The best "sound" mod I've made so far has been a custom Magnaflow axle-back. I think you'd be very happy with the Tsudo HFC front pipe for $200.

My 2 cents, YMMV.

decisions decisions. I know the guys at open flash used a custom midpipe connecting to the oem muffller to showcase their open flash header. I thought it sounded great! You could hear the boxer rumble but it was not deafening. I do not know what that specifications are of that custom midpipe i.e. resonator or no resonator. The videos have been removed from their website :(

thanks for recommending the Tsudo HFC. I just found it for $185 shipped! not bad. I am still weighing my options.

The tsudo HFC fp removes the resonator where you really need it.
