Why is no one using sti turbo kits?

Pulled my headers off yesterday while installing JDL kit, and a mate had his spare ej25 race motor sitting around. Bang, fa20 headers fit perfectly.

This led us to look at whether an OEM sti turbo setup would fit the 86. Eyeballing it up, it looks like it would. It may need some slight tweaking.
The OEM twin turbo setup from a legacy might even fit.

We're just dummying up my turbo kit now, but then taking it apart on the weekend to get ceramic coated. Am making a couple of calls today to see if I can find someone that still has their OEM sti setup, so I can see if it would fit.

No promises at this stage. Have to find a kit to borrow first.

Surely we're not the first to think of doing this.. ?

The piping may not fit...

Is that a dry sump on that ej?

The up pipe would have to be different. It would need to be angled more to put the turbo near where our battery is. I believe Works was working on a kit with similar placement to the WRX's but I haven't heard about it in a long time.

Works was also trying to retain both cats for CARB approval which means the up-pipe would have to come from from after the front-pipe...and then the down-pipe from the turbo would need to run to the back. that is some convoluted exhaust routing...

It sounds like a good idea(carb approval), but I can't even imagine the exhaust nightmare.

Yup. He's been hassling me to dry sump the gt86 because he wants to make a kit for it, but I dont want to lose my ac. (Drifting with aircon on is boss)
Taking the oil pan off it tomorrow to put the turbo oil drain in, and some baffles. If it is still oil surging (which I suspect it will) then we're going to look at dry sumping a different way. Off the flywheel possibly.

Twin scroll, not twin turbo, right?

The header is really the biggest piece of work when it comes to making a turbo kit. The rest is much easier to fab. I can definitely see it as being a good option for a rotated kit with the battery moved.

It looks like that works kit lost a strut tower brace. I wonder how the handling would be.
