Interesting section in manual: Event Data Recorder

Looking through my manual on page 17 Scion discusses the Event Data Recorder which in the event of a crash records:

How various systems were operating

If seat belts were buckled

How far the driver was pressing the accelerator and brake pedal

How fast the car was traveling

This info can only be given by owner's consent, or by police request, or by Scion in the event of a lawsuit.

Drive carefully my friends!

The thing should only be turned on by owner's consent. Hmmmpf. Have to figure out a way to write all zeroes to its memory.

It's got a black box!?! cool :)

Almost all new cars have these things... There's legislation in the works to require all new cars to have them by 2015

Big brother is watching

So does the BRZ have it too?

Yeah, to keep you Aussies and your Foster's under control:lol:

Never met an Aussie I didn't like!

:D Fosters is our export beer, you can't actually buy it here, maybe in Melbourne but nowhere else. We use it to keep everyone else under control ehheh :p

no really, knowing that my entire conversation with the control tower will be recorded and used on me if I crash on re-entry will definitely keep me and my lead foot locked down and out of trouble :)

maybe we should all be issued suits with bubble helmets...

forgive my exuberance, this is the first I've heard of these things.

almost every car out has had boxes like this for decades. pretty much if you have airbags, there is a "black box".

There was a thread on this in the BRZ section IIRC. It only records for a maximum of 30seconds, then records over that data. Its not streaming data back to Toyota, so Im cool with it.

Does anyone know where the ft-86 EDR is located?

I also noticed an electronic like box located under the trunk floor mat on the driver's side near the back seat. What is it?
