stupid question about brz

Another stupid question (asking since i couldn't seem to find it in the threads), but why did subaru put that moustache handle bar on the front bumper of the brz? I'm not really sure what purpose it serves except potentially to protect something there? Please don't flame me for the question lol

It covers up the front bumper beam. Also, the uneven texture disrupts airflow as it hits the front of the car and directs vortices along the hood flares over the tires, creating corner-specific downforce.

To give it styling that is distinctive. Note that "distinctive" doesn't necessarily mean "attractive".

lol thanks for the info! I also notice that same black handle bar on the new mazda 3s as well though a bit smaller

For whatever reason its part of that trend of putting mustaches on cars. I believe Genesis, GTR's, Eclipse, Evo's, etc. all have mustaches now.

I'm just happy that my FRS does NOT have one!

IMO two reasons:

1. Since Toyota planed to sell more GT86s/FR-Ses than BRZs, so they pushed Subaru to make an ugly bumper.:happyanim:

2. It will be boring if GT86/FR-S and BRZ are exactly the same. In order to make the twins different from each others, Toyota and Subaru design their own front bumper(and fender inserts). And as you know, Subaru body designers' taste are always ..... ..you know....anti-popularization...:iono:..
BTW I have to agree that BRZ's fender insert unexpectedly looks better.

Same feeling I have for not having scion badges... Maybe even better.

the mustache probably is a style trend along with almost every new car having the led drls or led front fascia accents

Sorry to kill the fun but the FRS/86 actually does have one. It's just not as visible. Look toward the top of the grill and you'll see solid black plastic behind the "space invaders" patterns.

I'm not a fan aesthetically, but on a positive note, it is one less painted area that will inevitably get chipped/pitted over time.
