speakers

Hey everyone. has anyone installed speakers that can provide enough bass as to where a sub is not needed?

i'm told sound dampening the doors does wonders for the stock system improving it's low end.

however no 6" speaker of any brand is going to have the impact a proper sub is going to have. and that impact is what i crave, so my answer to your question is 'no' based on my personal preference..

thanks a bunch! i was thinking of just getting oem audio + since it does have a nice compact 8" sub. I wonder if that will work with an aftermarket head unit.

afaik, the OEM+ will work with aftermarket HU, you just need to tell them so they can adjust the EQ settings I think.

well i do have the stock head unit now, but for future reference I was hoping to get the avic80000 so i'm not sure how that would work in terms of having it installed with the stock unit now then the pioneer later.

i think you'd be better off putting together your own setup later on then.

i don't know for sure how all the oem+ stuff works, but the stock system works by using the speaker-level outputs of the deck, so it's very possible that the oem+ system would connect the same way to the aftermarket radio, which imo is not the best way to do it.

to me, this would mean that there would be zero sound-controlling advantage to an aftermarket deck, as you'd still need to run the outputs of the deck as 'full range' to allow for the oem+ parts to do their thang.. and personally, the major benefit of changing the deck is the improved sound manipulation controls...

Thank you for the valuable information! Well in that case I'll do some upgrades w other components. Thank you again!

I installed 6.5's in the rear panels and a 10" JL Audio sub and Stealthbox with 700w JL Audio 5 channel amp and sub-controller. I run it on the "XB" and "Feel" settings, and I am very happy.

If you have not changed to "XB" and "Feel" with the factory speakers, you might want to give it a try. I does really wake up the system.

I'll definitely give this a shot !! Thanks a bunch!!! I didn't know you can fit 6.5 in the rear since those are little 3.5 lol. I'm leaning more towards a 8in sub in the rear. I really like the oem audo + style sit it doesn't take much room, but i'm not sure if I want a sub in the car. I just want a nice thump but nothing to where I'm going to rumble. Just a little more than the factory.

At a stereo shop, I was quoted about 2700 and that's without a sub. eeeek. this was for
avic8000. t165 6.5 for the front, p132 3.5 two way in the rear, fosgate 400 w cjamme; t400-4 amp, and that fat bill came up with wires and install. I kind of thought that's a little much just for a little more thump. I was told with that setup I wouldn't need a sub.

I do remember sitting in a buddies frs at 86fest and the OEM audio blew my mind, but again, I do want the pioneer head unit and someone did chime in earlier about not going that route.

You have to invest some time and money to get the best result. I can use my midsub down to 40-50Hz on Highlevel. You need a speaker with can reach such deep, a good and powerful amplifier who can handle the speakers right (does not mean high Watts) and you have to do massiv work on mounting and damping. Even then you will miss the feel of a real sub

labskaus 05-11-2014 04:01 PM

@Monogram how did you strengthen the panel? There is hardly nothing in near to fix a speaker right.
And without a good mounting panel it is sensless to insert speakers into the panel

Nice thing about the panels that hold the speakers: The panels seal up the opening to the quarter panel, and with Dyno-Mat over the panels, the road noise in the vehicle is significantly reduced.

hmm that sounds pretty interesting. I did try xb and feel. def a lot more punch, but do need some more haha. gosh, wish there was a simple go to for this haha
