Did Tsuchiya say this is a girls car?

I'm really tired and maybe I took this out of context but it seems like Tsuchiya says it's a pretty girls car.

http://www.jcarblog.com/2011/11/28/k...-on-the-ft-86/

With the press embargo now lifted on Toyota's FT-86, anyone who's driven the car is able to give their thoughts on Toyota's new coupe. Japanese car magazine XaCar caught up with two famous drivers to ask them their opinions: "Drift King" Keiichi Tsuchiya, a very famous motorsports pioneer, and Aguri Suzuki, former Formula One driver. What did the two of them think about the new car?

This is a somewhat abridged transcript of the interview, beginning at 1:33:

Interviewer: The 86 is a lightweight car first and foremost. Was it as you expected?

Tsuchiya: It was better than I expected. It felt like a Nissan Silvia Q's. (asking Suzuki) Don't you think it felt like a BMW 2-liter? Nice and solid.

Suzuki: I'm not a street racer like Kei-chan [ed: Tsuchiya] here. But I think both street racers and normal people will be able to enjoy the car. The balance is great. You'd look really cool driving it.

Tsuchiya: Like someone pretty.

Suzuki: Yeah, it would be fitting car for a pretty girl or something.

Interviewer: Is the 86 a supercar?

Suzuki: Well, they've made it really light. Supercars nowadays are getting bigger and bigger all the time. They get larger, and the engine displacement keeps going up. But in this car, they've really made it light, and even though it's just a 2-liter engine. It might be more fun with a little more power, but I really felt the balance was excellent.

Interviewer: Maybe it'll be better with a little tweaking?

Suzuki: Yeah. I was disappointed with how it looked and sounded but I'm sure someone will take care of that later.

Tsuchiya: The last 86 was more suited for street racing than road use. Or maybe just up on mountain roads. But the new 86 would also work well in town, too.

If he did say that, why let it bother you? Do you know how hard people bag the miata?

ichitaka05 05-19-2012 02:52 AM

Old news ;)

Guff 05-19-2012 02:52 AM

No, I think that is Tsuchiya and Suzuki's abnormally horny selves just dreaming about girls. It's all they really think about...

ngabdala 05-19-2012 02:54 AM

It doesn't. I love Tsuchiya. And what doesn't seem like a woman's car compared to all the cars in the world he has driven? I just thought it was funny. In the video they start laughing at one point. I think that's when they bring up the pretty girl comment. I think it's funny

It's all I think about too. Tsuchiya just seems downright inappropriate with the Japanese models they pick for the GTChannel car reviews and races.

There's so many weird videos where he is trying to grind on random models...

ngabdala 05-19-2012 02:59 AM

Yeah or he takes the pointers and lifts their skirts. Love that guy

Who gives a shit? Drive what you like.

ahquit 05-19-2012 10:47 AM

I'll be coming from a Volvo V50, the wagon version of the S40 which is the most purchased car by females. So anything is an improvement in terms of manliness.

Bristecom 05-19-2012 06:39 PM

I take those comments a different way. They are just trying to appeal to women. Some women like curvy sports cars just like guys. I mean face it, the car is not screaming with masculinity - it could go either way, nor is it a monster of power to scare women away. I think it's cool to see girls driving this car. But people will buy it for different reasons. Even though most of us like the handling package, many will buy it mainly for looks and I think that's flattering. The car will remain special and it will say something about the driver. Finding out what made the person buy the car would interesting to me as well.

cyde01 05-19-2012 09:19 PM

really inaccurate translation. i saw the video several months ago, tsuchiya was saying the new 86 isn't JUST FOR hashiriya guys that go on the touge or circuit but would also be nice for girls driving in town as well. he said he'd love to see a hot girl driving one. in NO WAY did he say the car is a chick car, in a derogatory way. aguri was more disparaging, saying he's a supercar guy and not a hashiriya and prefers more power, but screw him not everyone can buy cars on his budget. :P

K2 05-19-2012 09:20 PM

I think he's giving us some tips.

"Say miss, you'd look really hot sitting in my FR-S over here."

At best a poor mans sports car.

civicdrivr 05-19-2012 10:01 PM

Hey, if it keeps insurance low, then by all means Im happy to have a girls car.

ngabdala 05-19-2012 10:13 PM

You already do if you're a Civic driver

I have a 2011 Si so I'm not bashing you :bonk:

Girls seem to like this car's looks. It's not the end of the world. As a single guy it will be nicer than my STi which they tended to not like from my experience.

frs/brz: oh I love you car.

STi: oh one of those. my loser ex Bf had one.

oh man, I feel you on the STi comments, when I had my 04, people would tell me the car was ugly, women never gave me looks, and this one chic I dated would always say "oh it's the blue car"... :iono:

and coworkers always made fun of the wing....

No, KT suggested that the car would look great with pretty girls driving it as well, fashionably in Tokyo's most trendy places, in spite of the car being so great on the motorsports end.

He also told Tada san that if he was blindfolded and was told this was a BMW's new creation, he would have believed it, and commended on a job well done.

arbnpx 05-20-2012 02:14 PM

This reminds me of what Tada-san said at the Toyota presentation at Fuji Speedway in late November 2011:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbJQdPuhlrU&feature=related"]TOYOTA NEW86[hachi-roku](Compact FR Sports) 京モーターショー2011 - YouTube[/ame]

(about 14 minutes in; this is a transcript of the translator, who may have been slightly mistranslating, and I had a hard time hearing the translators during some noise; some parts might get lost in translation)

...and then the rear view would give you the image of beauty, and it is really a unique, still universal beauty. And then so you can't help but look back when you see it, because it's so sexy, and it matches with a woman driver, and it would look sexier. So I hope women would drive this car.

screw that, I'd take the STI over a FR-S anyday. I don't give a f*** what women thinks.

btw I dont think girls mind cars as much as you guys might think.

blu_ 05-20-2012 02:52 PM

No they definitely don't.

White on Tan RX350. Every time I see another one it's being driven by a housewife schlepping her ankle biters to or from extracurriculars.

ngabdala 05-20-2012 07:51 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A girl has to be into you not your car. If she sees you using your car/home/wallet/possessions/job to impress her then she will know you aren't confident and comfortable with yourself and rather you feel inadequate, are needy, and like 90% of the guys out there.

If she likes you she will like your car, or at least tell you she does because she wants to be with you. If impressing women is why you're getting this car then I think it's safe to say you don't do well with girls and think this is going to be the fix.

Do some research on how to build self-esteem, find your good qualities, and use them rather than fake having self-acceptance and confidence because girls are extremely smart when it comes to this. Also they've seen everything and will smell it on you.

Get the car you can have fun in and be sure to have many smiles and/or adrenaline rushes with :burnrubber:
