Did Tsuchiya say this is a girls car?
I'm really tired and maybe I took this out of context but it seems like Tsuchiya says it's a pretty girls car.
http://www.jcarblog.com/2011/11/28/k...-on-the-ft-86/ With the press embargo now lifted on Toyota's FT-86, anyone who's driven the car is able to give their thoughts on Toyota's new coupe. Japanese car magazine XaCar caught up with two famous drivers to ask them their opinions: "Drift King" Keiichi Tsuchiya, a very famous motorsports pioneer, and Aguri Suzuki, former Formula One driver. What did the two of them think about the new car? This is a somewhat abridged transcript of the interview, beginning at 1:33: Interviewer: The 86 is a lightweight car first and foremost. Was it as you expected? Tsuchiya: It was better than I expected. It felt like a Nissan Silvia Q's. (asking Suzuki) Don't you think it felt like a BMW 2-liter? Nice and solid. Suzuki: I'm not a street racer like Kei-chan [ed: Tsuchiya] here. But I think both street racers and normal people will be able to enjoy the car. The balance is great. You'd look really cool driving it. Tsuchiya: Like someone pretty. Suzuki: Yeah, it would be fitting car for a pretty girl or something. Interviewer: Is the 86 a supercar? Suzuki: Well, they've made it really light. Supercars nowadays are getting bigger and bigger all the time. They get larger, and the engine displacement keeps going up. But in this car, they've really made it light, and even though it's just a 2-liter engine. It might be more fun with a little more power, but I really felt the balance was excellent. Interviewer: Maybe it'll be better with a little tweaking? Suzuki: Yeah. I was disappointed with how it looked and sounded but I'm sure someone will take care of that later. Tsuchiya: The last 86 was more suited for street racing than road use. Or maybe just up on mountain roads. But the new 86 would also work well in town, too. |
If he did say that, why let it bother you? Do you know how hard people bag the miata?

Old news ;)

No, I think that is Tsuchiya and Suzuki's abnormally horny selves just dreaming about girls. It's all they really think about...

It doesn't. I love Tsuchiya. And what doesn't seem like a woman's car compared to all the cars in the world he has driven? I just thought it was funny. In the video they start laughing at one point. I think that's when they bring up the pretty girl comment. I think it's funny

It's all I think about too. Tsuchiya just seems downright inappropriate with the Japanese models they pick for the GTChannel car reviews and races.

I'll be coming from a Volvo V50, the wagon version of the S40 which is the most purchased car by females. So anything is an improvement in terms of manliness.

I take those comments a different way. They are just trying to appeal to women. Some women like curvy sports cars just like guys. I mean face it, the car is not screaming with masculinity - it could go either way, nor is it a monster of power to scare women away. I think it's cool to see girls driving this car. But people will buy it for different reasons. Even though most of us like the handling package, many will buy it mainly for looks and I think that's flattering. The car will remain special and it will say something about the driver. Finding out what made the person buy the car would interesting to me as well.

really inaccurate translation. i saw the video several months ago, tsuchiya was saying the new 86 isn't JUST FOR hashiriya guys that go on the touge or circuit but would also be nice for girls driving in town as well. he said he'd love to see a hot girl driving one. in NO WAY did he say the car is a chick car, in a derogatory way. aguri was more disparaging, saying he's a supercar guy and not a hashiriya and prefers more power, but screw him not everyone can buy cars on his budget. :P

I think he's giving us some tips.
"Say miss, you'd look really hot sitting in my FR-S over here." |
At best a poor mans sports car.
