Florida Residents

hopefully by this time next year, I'll be moving to Tampa,

are there any Tampa residents or people familiar with the area, who can provide me with knowledge regarding the area

-good parts of town

-good apartments

-etc.

I'm not from Tampa, but I go occasionally for work. Move across the bay to St. Pete area if you can. Really nice area, open city feel, not busy. Type of place where everyone is riding their bikes, lots of cafes, just overall lively. About 15 min drive into Tampa downtown from St. Pete downtown.

What do you like/dislike? Like lots of people/congestion? Like more open space and don't mind a drive? Any idea where you will be working (ie military transfer or job transfer or just moving)? Apartment budget ballpark?

I work in Tampa and live in Brandon currently, lived in St Petersburg a bit before. Pros and cons of both areas.

I'm not sure how close Tampa is to Orlando lol but my parents live in Kissimmee (right outside Orlando) and they love it there.

I say the pros out weigh the cons!

i'm just moving. I mostly work from home, but i'll most-likely be getting a 9-5 for the first few months i live there.

-i don't mind a drive at all (i love it actually)

-as for apartments i can afford about $620-690/month so pretty much average

i guess i'm not too picky, my only requirements are a safe place to park and a close proximity to an office supply store.

Any nice area of Tampa is going to cost more than that unfortunately. That does leave some of the burbs where you can find 1 bedrooms in that range without a garage. Check into Brandon and Riverview. Both have good and bad areas. The further out from the city the cheaper rent will be. My last 1 bedroom in St Petersburg with a garage was 950/month and was nothing fancy :( I pay $1,400 a month currently but it's a house at least.

i figured i would out and away from the city. and at $950/month it might be better to pay multiple months rent at a time.either way, hopefully it'll be a temporary place until i can get on my feet and move to something better.

Is Tampa still the strip club capital of FL, per capita?

jdcorbitt3 05-09-2014 10:33 PM

Ocala is a nice area. For $700/month, you can get a 3/2 with a 2 car garage in a decent neighborhood. My brother-in-law is a Realtor. His son specializes in rental properties. We have two Staples and one Office Depot. It is worth a drive through on the way to Tampa. We do lack water except for a couple of lakes.
