Ecutek new tuning question
 

I bought my frs already tuned with ecutek from out of state far away from where I live. Now I want to take it to a shop near home that does ecutek tuning. When they tune it they said the license is married to the cable that I don't have, and have to re buy the license. Is this true? I thought it was married to the car itself and I could just buy a used cord off someone on here if I wanted to use it.

the license is "married" to your ECU. all you need is a cable and a dongle (des key) to do some logging and updates.

What if I don't have the dongle. Is that something the shop should have since the do ecutek tuning

yeah... the shop will have everything they need to tune the car. you don't need your cable unless you want to log the car yourself. the license is already in the ecu.

Either they don't know what they're talking about; or, they are trying to pull one from under you and trying to rip you off. If the latter, then they are lying to you..actually, in either case = red flag. Go to another shop. Anyone that lies will not be a good tuner and is no good nor a good place to go to. If I was you, I would never go there.
