Do I have a Scion or a Toyota or a Subaru?
I picked up my car last night. When we were in the finance managers office signing all the papers my daughter looks at one we were signing and it says Subaru FR-S. The manager then says well that is what is in our system for the car. He looks through all the documents he has printed and they all say Subaru. He then takes his pen and marks out every reference of Subaru and writes in Scion.
Today I go to the DMV and turn in the paperwork to receive my tag. I get home and took at the tag receipt and it states Toyota FR-S on that paperwork. I do not know if I should be concerned or not. All the vin numbers are correct on the paperwork. Must be a glich in everyones sytem because this is the very first one to be sold in my state. |
What type of dealership did you purchase the car from?
Subaru dealership = Subaru BRZ Scion/Toyota dealership = Scion FRS ***The FRS is known as the Toyota GT86 in Japan |
My dealer is a Toyota/Scion but it is part of the Asbury Group that sells over 30 brands through over 120 dealers in the US. They are all tied into the same computer network.

If it really bothers you, just go off what the title says. I just tell people its a Subaru built with Toyotas money. :iono: |
I actually have a similar thing going on. Make states Toyota. I was wondering what it means. I will find out I guess.

It was made in a Subaru plant and is being shipped out by Subaru, so I guess it should be a Subaru.

It's a Subarotion... or is it a Sciotaru? At the end of the day... it's all the same company

it may take a bit for it to be labeled right.
early on all scions were Toyota under brand and scion under model with no designation of which scion you were actually driving. when i was getting insurance on my tC it was in their system as Toyota Chrysler TC by Maserati. they thought the Scion tC was a continuation of a late 80's abom- I mean, partnership with chrysler and maserati. |
The car was engineered and built by Subaru. Toyota fronted the body work and capital to do it. So, they decided to throw their badges on it too.

Is my Car a:
A. Toyota B. Subaru C. Scion Answer: D. All of the above |
Daihatsu.

I think some systems are confused because of the WMI in the VIN being JF1 for the FR-S, which would normally indicate Subaru.

Just call it a Fuji :bellyroll:

This is exactly what I was thinking. It had me shaking my head when the finance guy at the Scion dealership had it listed they were selling me a new Subie. I can see it now, I get stopped by the police for some infraction and he runs my plates and it comes up in the DMV system I am in a Toyota. All the while every emblem on the car says Scion. If he is not a car junkie, like all of us on the forum, he will not become suspicious of me and think I switched plates off some Toyota and put them on my Scion. I have already had several people look at the car and ask me what is a Scion. Their name recognition is not very strong to the general public.:( |
