Steering wheels have different spline offsets.
 

I'll try to make this somewhat straightforward...

I have two oem steering wheels. They have different numbers stamped on them...not sure if that matters or not.

The one that came from the factory is perfectly centered. The other one is off by a little. I though I was being crazy and have spent some time switching between the two and measuring.

Last night I locked the original wheel in place and measured its angle with a digital level. (I also pulled it to one side, because even when locked it has some give (about 1-2 degrees) ). I then did the same with the second wheel. I then moved it one tooth to the right and one to the left. The closest I could get it to being the same angle as the original was 4 degrees.

This leads me to believe that the female side of the spline on the wheels is at a different rotation and there is some lack of consistency across manufacture dates.

So my questions:
1) Has anyone else noticed this?
2) Is there really a steering angle sensor in the car? I ask because if I were to get the wheel re-centered the next time I get an alignment I'd like it to drive straight with the sensor at 0 deg perfect center. Is there a way of resetting the sensor?

Mild issue should be able to be fixed by alignment.

Manufacturing tolerances are a bitch. There is a steering angle input sensor that can be reset by your alignment technician so long as they know there is one to reset.
