Winmax W2 brake pad review?
Just ordered a F/R set of W2 Winmax brake pads. Has anyone used these for Auto-X/Street yet? Do I need to bed these as well?
Just wanted to see some feedback with brake noise/dust/improvement over OEM etc. |

I had previously used Hawks in the front and stocks in the rear. The Hawks made a ton of noise and dust, the W3s are very quiet and generate much less dust. I've used them with R Comps when autoxing and they are more than capable for that task. I'd say that the Hawks had much more initial bite (even to the point where they were locking the front tires under hard braking), while the W3s are much more progressive and easy to modulate. The W3s have easily as much braking force as the Hawks did, but you can control it much better IMO. |
They just arrived today, will be installing them tomorrow. Do you have any recommendation on how to bed them correctly? They are more street/auto-x pads though. Do they even need to be bedded for mainly street pads?

Initial thought: They definitely bite harder than OEM, and it has a different "brake" feel to them. Light force seems to be weaker than OEM, but as you put more force on the brakes, it bites significantly harder. Noise: It has a very faint squeal at high speed light application on the brakes. The squeal stops once there is more force on the brakes. No noise with low speed stop and go. The most I hear it is about 2 seconds getting off a freeway (High speed -> mid speed). Not bothersome at all. Dust: There may be a slight increase in the brake dust, but nothing crazy. After about 1.5k miles, I wiped my rims off with a towel, took 5 minutes. I've seen much worse with other owners brake pads. I am pretty light on my brakes so maybe different at the track (23k miles on OEM pads, probably still had over 2/3 left. Burnout issues: Since I have an AT, I have trouble doing burn-outs with these new pads! With OEM, it was so easy to get the rears spinning, but with the new pads, I can't really do stand still burnouts anymore. Overall review: I am not a track junkie, so these pads are excellent for me. More bite than OEM, not very dusty, barely no noise and no need to replace rotors. Install was a breeze, and I highly recommend these for the occasional drift/auto-X guys that drive mainly on the street. Cold weather bite is good as well, and its as effective first thing in the morning compared to mid-day. |
I've been on my W2's now for a few thousand miles.. Hmm, damn, I only mounted them a month ago.
I LOVE THE BITE, they stop fantastic, right from the initial grab to max pressure to kick in the anti-locks. Now the sad thing is they are a bit harsh on the dust factor and I am probably just hitting the break a bit more than I need to because I love that felling they will stop you with ease. I haven't had track time on them yet. but will soon. Moto suggested getting used to these and if really need to go up to W3, do so. But with my white rims, and the small amount of metal they add to the W3 compound. We thought I'd be upset with the rust that would show. Anyway, for now.. I really love the W2's. |

I kinda half assed the bedding procedure since it is hard to find a place to do all that listed on there. Seems to bite well so far.. |
