Evo Magazine - GT86 better than BRZ

2 Attachment(s)
After causing a little controversy last month when I posted scans of Evo Magazines group test where the BRZ came last, the boys from Evo are at it again.

My early subscribers copy dropped through my letterbox this morning.

GT86 Road test of final production version: 4 Stars

I quote from the article "It's a better car than the BRZ. This is nearly the car we've all been dreaming about" . OOPS!

uh oh. It is about to get rowdy up in here. :D

Oh boy. So a Cooper S will murder it.

I wonder how a Veloster Turbo will fair against it.

After all the backlash from their last article, it sounds like they're looking for reasons to back-track, placing the blame instead on the BRZ's suspension tuning. I doubt the difference in tuning can "transform the experience from frustrating to life-affirming" as they say, but who knows, I haven't driven the BRZ yet.

Also interesting he found the FR-S understeered more steady-state, (but was more willing to slide its tail out under power).

Auto vs. manual

I would also vastly prefer a manual gt86 over an auto brz.

Their last article was somewhat of an eye opener. This article opens the other eye.

Its performance is all handling and that alone is not enough to allow it to overtake cars like the Cooper S. Forget that they are front wheel drive. They still can beat the twins and from what EVO is saying, do it handily.

People will argue aftermarket wheels and tires will shave this or that off of the twins but the same can be said about cars like the Cooper S.

Horse beating time; dollar to dollar a WRX will cream this car if you are playing the numbers game. That said, you are buying an experience, not lap times.

Lol she will be laughing at you in her rearview mirror.

Careful you don't let her see this review. She might frame it and hang it over your bed.
