Overpipe/downpipe options with stock axelback
I have a full stock exhaust system with exhaust tips attached. I'd rather not swap out the axelback until I need to.
I'm looking for a deeper, mature sound that is not loud. I've been looking at the nameless 2.5" downpipe (replaces overpipe). How would the car sound with this setup? Also, the Perrin 2.5" overpipe. Hard to guess how the car would sound with this. Any other options? |
First couple clips here are with the stock cat back, stock overpipe but Perrin 2.5" catted front pipe (which they don't sell anymore).
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkxBozcGtgg"]Scion FR-S Stock vs Perrin exhaust. - YouTube[/ame] Unfortunately I don't have any fully stock clips to compare it to. There is definitely a bit more volume after swapping the front pipe, not much change in tone compared to stock. Do you want the hp gain, or just a bit more sound? If you're not hunting for hp gains, it's much easier to just replace the axleback with a mild exhaust. The front pipe is decently easy to install, but the overpipe probably requires raising the engine a couple inches to get clearance. The overpipe alone is a waste, only add it if you're adding a front pipe as well. IMO, you're better off with the nameless combo, catted and resonated if you want to keep the rasp away in case you change the header in the future. |
here are a couple vids for sound comparison on oem axle backs with oem header. sound wise there shouldn't be much difference.
