ca-fi Dashlinq 4/OEM Audio+ Reference 400CF

I just placed my order for both these units. I had a great conversation with OEM+. They haven't had a chance to tune their system to a ca-fi yet so I am sending my unit to their RD department.

Really looking forward to having everything back and getting it all installed.

Anyway - just letting everyone know that once they tune it - they should have a nice DSP program for others looking to use a ca-fi/OEM+ in their twin.

Awesome! Excited to hear how it works out.

I just hope it doesn't work out with a broken window and wires hanging out of my dash

Keep us posted. Only played with mine for a few minutes so far. Noticed very weak subwoofer output. Used a a well reviewed splitter for two rca since they only give you one output. Had to crank up my Rockford fosgate powered sub all the wayjust for a little thump

The cool thing about sending it over to OEM+ is that they are going to install it in their test BRZ and tune it. This includes testing the harness and providing one that interfaces correctly. I asked for "robust" bass in their DSP. They are audiophiles so they are into balanced sound with a venue feel. Which - I respect. I made a decision to go their route over putting a couple of 10's in the back so I can keep weight down and still have my usable space.

Hard decisions! I have a jeep wrangler as my other vehicle so I will leave the bigger bass to that.

I will post an update once the unit ships from Hong Kong, clears customs, makes it to OEM+ in CA, their R/D dudes plays with it and finally send the units to me ready to install. What could possibly go wrong huh? I don't know why I get myself into this stuff.

Ok - I finally was able to get everything together.

Long story short - I have have had the OemAudio+ reference system installed using the factory head unit while I have been getting all of the little bits and pieces together to get the ca-fi working.

Tonight - I have the ca-fi installed. The sound system has been great with the factory head unit - my only complaint was "not enough bass". Well, most of us know that the factory head takes out a ton of bass frequency.

So - when the ca-fi is plugged in POW - the bass hits sooooo much harder. It sounds really good. You need to flatten out the ca-fi eq and turn off a setting called "reverberation" which I am assuming puts in a digital echo. Once that is disabled - oh man. The system is everything I hoped it would be audio wise.

The crew at OEM - Daniel and Sandy are outstanding to work with. They answered all my questions and followed up with me even when I did not initiate the call to check in on my progress.

They are pros. Sandy is an audiophile and does his best to make the system sound great in our cars. And - he does his job very well. Daniel is top notch as far as sales and service goes.

I am really looking forward to getting my ca-fi unit dialed in - internet access etc - but in the meantime - the reference system sounds really killer. Sound is subjective - I like to start with a nice crisp non-distorted sound that is easy on the ears at all volumes - then start playing with the settings to suit my tastes.

Anyway - I may do a little more of a write up but I found their installation instructions to be adequate. I took my time and enjoyed learning about my car. I admit - at one point I got a little worried that I might not be able to get the car back together but it all worked out :)

I was worried that the ca-fi would not sound good - especially in a two-way system. The sub out etc are not used. But - it easily smokes the factory system and I don't feel like I want to add more bass. If I do - I am sure there is a way to use the ca-fi sub out to another amp etc but I don't think I will be doing that in my car.

Also - I put down the back seats today and let the bass flow unimpeded into the front. That sounds even better.

If anyone has any questions - let me know!

Thanks Oem Audio - you guys have a great product and I am not only pleased to have your system in my BRZ - I am proud!

The thing to remember - the ca-fi is a 2-way system working off the main left and right audio outs. SW level, cross-over etc don't come into play. Flatten everything, disable all onboard DSP (reverb, etc) and enjoy! You can tweak if you want to - I am enjoying mine flat with OEMAudio+ "robust" bass right now. Sounds great over the nameless exhaust.

Here is a link to a quick cam phone video that helps visualize the bass in the system :) This is at all flat EQ settings.
