Tsukuba time attack review in the Car Top magazine

Finally, I've got the magazine w/ the full review of the time attack of different models of 86s, BRZs and other cars.
The video shots of the direct comparison between the 86 and the BRZ for this article was posted here before.

-They tested 20 cars/models at Tsukuba Circuit.

-For the 86/BRX, 6 different kinds of the stock models were checked. Interesting to see the 86 w/ 16" got the best lap.

-Some comments from Nakaya, the driver in the video: "I've already checked out the 86s/BRZs before, but the impression especially at "Tsukuba" is totally different. As we know the tires on the stock models are very "economic" as used for Prius. Meanwhile, the course road of TC has the high friction resistance. So, it is very stable and no drifting unlike the other circuits or streets. As far as grip-driving, I don't see a big difference between the 86 and the BRZ.

It’s great to have the times from so many different cars made on relatively similar conditions (i assume), and driven by a respectable pilot...
The times of the gt86/brz were quite decent specially considering that they weren’t equipped with grippy tires. I know this car wasn’t made for lap times, but knowing that with the right set of tires it’ll have a such a respectable pace, seems to make it a bit more of an achievement…

Thanks for the pics!

Yes, we remember Tada-san; the CE of 86 development, mentioned that the 86/BRZ shouldn't rely on tires specs to be a "good" sports car.

BTW, this is also interesting to see for tire comparison on the 86.

Will try to cover more if I squize my time tonight....

Just 1.5sec slower than the Mustang GT w/ performance pkg! Not bad!

The time for the 86 is right where I expected, about 1-2 seconds slower than an S2000 and about 1 second faster than an NC Miata. That tracks almost identically with their power-weight ratios.

As a side note, I have a hard time believing the Mustang GT is that slow. E92 M3s are in the 1:06-07 range for comparison. I would think the 5.0 would be similar (and honestly, would not have been surprised to see a 1:05).

Ha that journo at evo is silly look at that the mini is slower
