your biggest "beef" with other car trends?

Whats your biggest "beef" with other car trends?

I have many b/c I'm an old fart.

1. Big cursive stickers on front windshields that no one can really read and blocks the drivers view. WTF is the point?

2. Taking a "sports car" (like the 86) and stretching out the tires. I don't understand. Clearly "function" is not a high priority here.

3. The "Stance Movement". Getting the car as LOW as possible and having so much negative camber to "look good"? Not practical, not overly functional, and in my opinion does not look good.

At our local "Cars n Coffee" event there is a very small lot to park. More parking is on the strret in front of the place or across the street in a dirt lot. In the small lot I want to see rare cars. I want to see a F40 parked there. I don't want to see that f40 parked on the street or in the dirt lot.

On the other side of that I don't want to see a cambered out VW in primer with Audi wheels to have prime parking so that F40 parks on the street. I don't get some people or trends.

To each their own. Its your car and enjoy it. Don't mind me bitching about what I like and don't like. BUT- know you're place! Primer was never meant to be a color. Camber was supposed to HELP cars perform. Windshields were supposed to protect those inside a car and still provide clear visibility - big cursive stickers that no one can read anyway and block your view do not help you or make your car look cool.

For all you 86 owners out there that this MAY apply to. Try an autocross event in your car or a HPDE. Try using your car for what it was BUILT to do. THEN you will appreciate what you have!

/end old man's rant.

I don't understand the Thule bike rack on the roof of this slammed GTi in my neighborhood. That kid doesn't ride a f&%king bike. Ever.

Spoilers on front wheel drive cars.... like, really huge ones.

Stickers. Everywhere. Most for parts they don't even have.

Those dangling stuffed animals from your rear bumper. WTF?

Dropping so low you can't drive anywhere. Yea your car looks fast and probably is.... but not anywhere outside a nicely paved track. "My car is low and fast yo! But.... I cant go over railroad tracks/speedbumps/driveways/sewer covers/lane markers/painted crosswalks...."

/endrant

I think you and I would get along just fine.

Shocker stickers.

My biggest "beef" is with this forum. The forum is very narrow minded. You buy can frs/brz? you must automatically track it, drift it, do HDPE, etc. If you didn't do any of those, you're wasting a sports car.

Some people use the cars as daily drivers and as grocery getters. For others, just simply a means to get from Point A to Point B.

Now everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Why can't others just build THEIR cars how THEY want? Sure, i may not like the "stance" movement either, but is it my car? No.

To Each Their Own.

That is like saying FWD cars don't need rear tires because they don't drive or steer the vehicle. Spoilers can do everything from manage air separation (this matters in reducing drag) to providing downforce. If your car doesn't have enough rear grip, a rear spoiler can be useful on FWD. I'll concede it is relatively rare that a FWD street car will need a spoiler due to lack of grip, though.

No, no it isn't. It's saying "huge" spoilers on FWD look stupid. Thanks for the aerodynamics 101 though.

Anyone know where I can get a "SCION" windshield sticker in cursive?

I was just about to comment on that, but you beat me to it. It seems to be a popular misconception that just because a car is FWD, it won't benefit from rear-end downforce. There are plenty of race-prepped FWD cars setup to oversteer. In those instances, stability in higher speed corners is a good thing. Realtime Racing isn't running a spoiler on the back of its TSX for looks.

But if just talking about OEM-stock FWD cars, then yeah the spoiler is probably for looks. Just as it would be for most OEM-stock RWD cars.

The spoilers on pikes peak vehicles look stupid, but they are functional. The canards that everyone is slapping on their 86s these days are just as ridiculous as the winged FWD vehicles you hate. Most aftermarket/OEM "aero bits" on road cars are for looks than anything else.

I have passed 400 level aerodynamics courses and done some work in wind tunnels (airplane wing cross sections rather than cars, unfortunately), btw.

I was under the impression that it was my money and I will spend it the way I want it to be spent. I do not care for stance cars or putting stickers everywhere. However, I do respect the person who does do all those things mentioned above because it was their hard earned money.

I read a lot of car comparison in this forum. FRS/BRZ vs [car insert here]. At the end of the day, your not paying for Mr. Smith's car. So it concludes to me that if you want to be around a certain type of people or car, go join that club. Joining a forum where opinions are just that opinions and have no merit, it means little to complain or bitch about stuff.

Agreed, to each their own.

And yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
