Window Scratched by Window Motor / Lifter?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. While washing my car this past week (first time I hand washed it since the beginning of winter), I noticed my driver's side window, on the outside, has two deep scratches right where the window motor/lifters go (where we all get the wet streaks after rain/washing our cars). It's obvious the window motor assembly caused these two long scratches.

I'm guessing this is from this past winter, when I had ice in the windows/doors and had difficulty opening the windows. Never noticed the scratches until now because my windows were always dirty, and the scratches were aligned with the streaks from the motors when raising/lowering the windows after a wash or a rainy day.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how easy/difficult was it to get the dealer to replace your window? My windows are tinted, so would have to get new window tint too.

I know there's a TSB out there for solving frozen windows, so I'll ask the dealership to work on that when I drop it off even though winter is over.

I took my car in for its first service this week (1930Km), had them look at the scratches on the drivers window, they are going to replace my window and buffers. Now today I see I am victim of the tail lamp condensation, first noticed the passenger side, inspected drivers side and it had a small amount as well, both on top part of lamp assembly. Hopefully it is visible when I bring it in for the window, so I could get it replaced as well.

have the same situation here, on the driver side...

they said they would place a claim with subaru canada... and it's been almost a year without any news...

scratch are on the outside

This was a very common problem on the early nineties Imprezas (GC, GM, and GF chassis) - I'm amazed it hasn't been fixed yet.

It's a Subaru thing. I'm more concerned about head gasket leaks.

connorlug 05-02-2014 10:49 AM

there's a new tsb out for this, the window getting scratched and the sliders inside the door being replaced. it doesn't mention the window being replaced during the tsb but i'm sure if you mention it your dealer will understand.

Do you have a link to the TSB? Only window-related TSB I can find is related to the window freezing problem. My appointment at the dealer isn't till this upcoming Thursday.

Mister 05-02-2014 03:42 PM

Agreed I'd like to see this TSB if it exists.
I have been getting a couple vertical scratches on my driver side window. This has happened AFTER I got the window freezing TSB taken care of.

kasoneblaze1024 05-04-2014 08:30 AM

There a new tsb for that solution ...

The belt? I have asked for the Windows guide who help the windows to go up and down...

I don't think they have an TSB at my dealer, because this is me who inform the tech what we need to replace...

foompla 05-06-2014 11:37 PM

Gotcha. didnt realize you were Canadian

Haha no problem ;)

Deathreaper 05-07-2014 12:18 AM

Same issue here, foam slipped off the window roller or something. It's getting resolved by the dealer.

Mikepage 05-07-2014 12:29 AM

Someone have a picture of this piece?

sosick 05-07-2014 03:47 AM

Going to check it out tomorrow its raining now and ive had that squeak every since i bought the thing in june last year

tomkozski 05-29-2014 05:36 PM

Just an update - dealer is replacing everything, including rollers and the window. Sadly they won't cover the tint, so will have to get my driver's side window retinted.

unsurety 05-31-2014 05:35 AM

So the common squeak when rolling windows up or down is an indicator that the sliders should be fixed? I'd hate to get tint done and then have it get jacked up

Window Scratched by Window Motor / Lifter?

I have no idea why the tints need to be removed I did mines and it wasn't an issue (I work for the dealer ) my tints have nothing to do with it next time a dealer says something about tints ask them to bring in a field tech agent to confirm
