Good places to wash my car in the city ?
 

Hi everyone !

Owning a dark colored car sucks when your apartment complex does not have a washing station :mad0260:

I was wondering if any of you know if there are any good places I can wash my car in the city .

Also anywhere nearby , I don't mind driving a few miles !

I do own a foam gun with a universal nozzle attachment so it would be nice if I could attach that on their pressure washer !

I would rather not have my car washed by anyone else , but if you know a good decent priced detailing place I wouldn't not mind dropping in to see whats up .

Have you considered ONR? I wash my car in my extremely small garage with no issues, takes about 15 mins if it's just dusty. I rarely do the traditional car wash method anymore, unless it's after a track day or something.

Do you order this online or are there local stores that carry it?

Unfortunately you have to order it online. The closest distributor is in Southern California. I just ordered a new bottle from Autogeek.net, it seems they always have sales going on. And a bottle will last you a long time, considering you only use a capful for every wash.

Also, Theres a few self car wash places in Daly City/south sf.. Never been myself but I'll look it up later and post up the link (on my phone now)

Meguiar's Ultimate Detailer works good as a waterless car wash as well if your car isn't too dirty. 15-20 mins and 3 or 4 microfiber cloths and you're gtg.

I drive by these 2 places in Daly City sometimes.. they seem okay, pretty quick to get to since it's just bordering SF

There's a self wash place on geary. I believe it's near by the Toyota/Scion Dealer(Not the service).

Ahh , I never cleaned any of my cars like that before . I would definitely like to try this ! But do you think it would be better for me to rinse wash my car since it is pretty dirty ?

Yeah it might be a good idea to just do a quick blast with a pressure washer from the self-service places and then do ONR after that.

Sometimes if my car is really dirty I spray the car down with a mix of ONR and water and let it sit there for a good 5 minutes, concentrating the spray in places where there's heavy dirt. If your car's paint is cool to the touch, the ONR won't dry out and will help lift the dirt when you go to "clean" it.

I usually go to hillside that was listed above in the yelp link. It's pretty clean and the equipment has never broken on me. They even take credit card for the wash but quarters only for the vacuum. Haven't seen any shady people. At worst, just dudes who are high.

Definitely try ONR! In fact, wash your car at Hillside, then when it's just starting to get dirty again (maybe in 10 days? Ymmv) try the ONR. It's only 1 ounce per 2 gallons of water.

You don't even need a hose...you can just grab a bucket (that can fit at least 2 gallons), and get an empty gallon container of water and fill it up in your sink twice.

If you want to prevent swirl marks, use a soft wash mitt & microfiber towel (for drying) most importantly, use a different bucket and wash media for wheels.

Here's a Toyota Corolla after I cleaned it with ONR. I used it on the whole car including rims.


A good pattern to practice would be to use ONR to clean it every so often, then use car wash booths to clean the underbody/tires/wheel wells maybe once every 2 months or more if it rains.

Just an aside...ONR goes a long way. I have 1 gallon of quick detailer which is a solution of water and ONR. I think I used a 16:1 ratio.
