Will I be able to fix this chip myself?
1 Attachment(s)
I just noticed this chip on the passenger side while washing my car today :(. Must have been some road debris (I remember seeing something hit my windshield but didn't see a crack while driving so I figured it was harmless). My question is whether or not this can be easily repaired myself, or if it would be less expensive to just take it to a shop. It is down to the metal, and has actually shown signs of a little rust already; I last washed my car 3 weeks ago and it wasn't there. I don't have the equipment for any sanding either, so I would need to buy/find that if I were to do it myself. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Wet sand (2000 grit from autozone) the rust away and then apply touch up paint. Use a toothpick to apply the touch up paint, never use the brush that comes with the paint. Just fill in the hole and be careful not to get any paint outside the chip. If done correctly, only you would know that there's a chip there.

Subaru tends to carry the paint....toyota not so much....

Thanks for the advice, I stopped by my local detail shop and asked them as well. turns out the guys at the shop are nice enough to do the work for me free of charge; all I need to do is bring the touch up paint.

They just applied some sort of cleaning agent, I couldn't get a good look. and then just used a pin to put the paint into the hole. He said not to use the brush (like everyone else) and the most important thing is to shake the paint enough (I bought a bottle from the dealership, not sure what you've got). He didn't use anything else, even to remove the rust or anything; maybe that's what the cleaner agent was? |
