Police mode on limited BRZ: input needed

So I had this vague idea today while I had to go get some quick money at the ATM: would there be a way, with the Push to start system, to keep the car on, get out with the key in your pocket and lock the car, essentially keeping the car running and locked (aka my police mode) while you run a quick errand. Input is appreciated.

For all those who came hoping to see a WRB with police lights, I'm sorry you were disappointed :(

Why? Only question I have.

I am not sure.

have you tried it? I feel like it's possible...

how about.. leaving the spare key inside the car?
walk away and lock it with the other key?

Because it looks sick, remove a quick (but necessary) step and because my BRZ refused to start today, and I though it maybe was because of on/off too many time without alternator recharginf in between.

Will it not lock with the inside door button after you open the door, and then get out?

I used to leave my old car unlocked for small trips all the time when I ran into gas stations in college. Came out one time, started driving and two of my friends were hiding in my back seat.

Terrifying

Lock the door manually when you get out

Are you able to unlock it after that? I think the fob is disabled while the car is running. Or at least the exterior sensors are.

Fob is disabled once the handbrake is released.

Also very interesting in this, when you just cold started your car and have to jump out to pick up drugs on the corner you don't want to have to cold start your car again, but your sure as hell not gunna leave it unlocked!

My Smart key on my Evo X is capable of that.

Lol I posted about this before. It's more like a "How smart is this smart key?"

Other car companies have this down... Why hasn't Toyobaru?

The only way to do it is to physically lock the door and then open it with the little key inside your key fob.

I do this every morning to warm up the car. Would ve nice if the fob works, but yea I still need to physically unlock with the little inside the fob.

Maybe some gurus could find a way to mess with some wires or something, a bypass of some sort to allow locking and unlocking with the fob... but thanks for the physical key idea, ill use thar for now !
