Buy now or wait for the Sti(TRD)
 

I love the 86, and think it a worthy successor to my S2000, but seeing the Sti concept from the Tokyo show...

"Subaru will improve the car’s air intake, add a less-restrictive exhaust, increase redline to 7,500 rpm and revise the variable valve control system for optimized performance."

I kinda want that! but on the other hand, I don't want the stiffer springs and doubt I want to pay for the Carbon Fiber bits. Now TRD has a nice little parts list:

So I'm wondering how much they will have for the BRZ.

Given I want to keep my warentee for a while (hence the SPT parts)...

ALSO: I want the sti rear spoiler - I know it's stupid, but I used to own a FTO GPX with rear vision killer wing. And it was gooood.

I would wait, unless you absolutely must have the vehicle now. When it's released and if you don't like it, purchase the BRZ premium/limited and add the options u want from the Sti. Same goes for the FRS.

The only problem with waiting if it matters to you, is that the car will be more common then so you won't get as much of the stares and questions whenever you drive somewhere.

I like the TRD parts but have preordered a BRZ. I wonder if Subaru will offer the brakes rebranded? Seems to be a good way to get the bling out to the masses.

You can always wait, but who knows for how long you'll be waiting for an upgraded version? A year, three years? Further, the STi BRZ may not have what you want...

How much do you want to spend? The STI, assuming it comes out, won't be all that close to the BRZ-L price I'd bet.

Lease the BRZ a few years. By then new variants of the car would be official. I might be leasing my BRZ. If nothing official comes out in 2 or 3 years then I'll buy what is left.

I'd never buy a car based on that. All that matters is I know I have an awesome car. Despite what people also think a nice ass car is no substitute for confidence and being comfortable in one's own skin to pick up the ladies. Cars don't matter to them unless they are strippers, prostitutes, or anyone else that only is after you for money.

I think the BRZ could be a bad thing for Subaru as the way people are currently treated at the dealerships may cause people to avoid Subaru altogether in the future.

The car will not sell as well in cold-weather snowy climates after the summer.

Also car companies like Nissan may already be working on their own low CoG cars to compete in this niche which lower the estimates on the amount of BRZ sold as now they are not the only contender in an affordable sportscar market.

I'm a little lost with how the BRZ could be anything but good for Subaru... It shows the versatility and vision of the company to partner with another, Toyota, to build a state-of-the-art vehicle specifically designed for enthusiasts. I wouldn't associate the poor knowledge or interactions with the dealerships as something standard with the car! Yes, this launch has some bad taste from time to time, but overall I could not be more excited! Have patience! You'll be pleased if the end product suits your every desire which I'm guessing it may :) Yes, other cars will follow suit, but only after Subaru and Toyota have proved this a viable niche in the market, but that could be years away! Enjoy life now! Why wait?

I remember someone else asking a very similar question, and one of the replies was "If you wait, by the time the STI comes out, something better could be coming out after that and you'll want to wait for that, thus never having a BRZ since you keep waiting." If you like the BRZ, get it. It's an amazing car, and if the STI comes out and you like it, trade it in toward the STI. Or you might decide a few years down the road that the BRZ isn't for you and you can move onto something else rather then waiting for the STI to come out only to disappointed when it does (if he doesn't like the BRZ, which I highly doubt :D).

Quoted for truth. An STI will be a way away and probably longer again.

It's looking like most of the parts from the STi concept will be available a la carte from STi. The wheels, suspension, exhaust, engine start button, shift knob, rear spoiler, front splitter, etc. Just not the carbon hood or roof which you said you don't want anyways. Why wait? I'm not!

I would recommend driving the current one and then determining if you are satisfied with the what the car gives you stock. If you feel it is lacking then wait. We know that Subaru is going to come out with a BRZ that has more horsepower/torque. They have stated as such. You have a great car now, so it is not like it would kill you to wait a year or two if you needed to. But you may also be very happy with the stock BRZ and doing some minor mods.
