to be able to made that kind of statement, they have to create a better rwd light sport car for this price with the same price tag.

I think people are mad that Nissan had the gall to say it's a mid life crisis car designed for 50 year olds when all they make are overpriced Zs that have lost their soul and nothing Yutaka Katayama envisioned with the 240Z. Toyota goes back to basics with the 86 and in typical Nissan fashion they bash the car (Honda and Toyota always take the high road -Nissan could learn from that). Let's see if Nissan can make an affordable sporty car that can get people excited about them again -judging by the IDx's appearance they're going to have to keep them factories running 24/7 to meet demand <sarcasm off>. If you want jack rabbit starts get a Mustang/Camaro ($$), if you want fast and higher end get a Porsche/Corvette ($$$) if you want better than that get what your bank account can afford ($$$$). If you want something fun to drive without losing your license or putting you in the poorhouse get a twin/Miata/Si or GTi and live with your decision. Agreed, the FR-S could stand a little more horsepower but I can't remember ever getting beaten by a Sienna. How come you don't see posts about peers such as Miatas, tCs, Darts, Abarths, Minis, Sis getting beaten by mini vans (except for the Si they're all slower)??? |

When I read the Nissan rep's comments my thoughts were that he was eluding to the next Z35 not the IDX. I think IDX will cost slightly less than the twins with similar power but the Z will be more powerful (with turbo 4cyl) and slightly higher priced. Right now you can get a 370Z for BRZ limited prices. Most of Nissan's quotes about the IDX make it seem like more of an entry level sporty commuter car leaving the Z replacement as the real sports car in the line-up. They're trying to bracket the twins on either side with different sporty offerings hoping people will cross shop. I could be wrong though. |

That said with the example you've given. The Sienna at best is capable of a 0-60 of 7.5 seconds, most say its 7.9 seconds. That is a very competitive time for a AT FRS/BRZ where its fuel economy gearing does put it in that position. The MT FRS/BRZ though, they're often quoted near the 6.5 second range. It will beat the Sienna, but that's not enough to take on a V6 Camry. That said, the Camaro V6 also struggles to defeat a V6 Camry. |

At a PIR track day last year I was intrigued what local legend, former IndyCar driver, tv motorsports commentator, Honda dealer and former world closed course top speed record holder Parker Johnstone chooses to drive in his Pro Class when his IndyCar is still on display in the Honda showroom, ready to roll. When I asked him what it was that made him continue racing the car, he mentioned among many other things (he's a talker) was balance, something we twin owners get to experience on road and track. Nissan are just mad because they could have cornered this market 10 years ago with the 350z. Instead they made it a fat pig and sold it for 10g too many.
Now they're just 'mirin |
I want to know why all the Japanese car companies are making all their affordable cars now as 4 cylinders that are either too small and turbocharged or the right size and NA. With the engine technology today they could make an insane car if it came with even an extra .2L of displacement and a turbo. There's a ton of room in our engine bays, and Subaru and Toyota act like it's jam packed. I crack up reading the comments by our car companies saying they can't find a place for a turbocharger when there's dozens of aftermarket companies that figured it out so soon after it's release. Car companies today all try to adhere to the needs of the average person and leave the enthusiasts choosing between the less of two evils. Rant done, I'm sure I'll be quoted on this saying I don't know anything about cars from all the haters on this forum but that's just my opinion.

They countered with this fugly monstrosity... way to go Nissan!! Remember when the Sentra was the alternative cheap tuner car to the Civic? Those days are long gone! Does anybody buy Sentras, Maximas, or Pathfinders anymore (they sure don't in the northeast)? Maybe instead of bashing the FR-S they should try to make cars that people want to buy (like back in the early/mid 90's -except for the Z) that don't make you wish you went blind like the Cube, IDx, & Juke. |
