Bad Luck Strikes...

On my way back from the gym at 10pm, bam, I hear something hit the underside of car as I'm traveling 70mph on the highway, the car instantly pulls me off to the side of the road to where there was (thankfully) nothing.

Pilot Super Sport on the passenger side, blown and torn to shreds. Damn kids and their rocks.

I'm not one to make this sort of thread, but damn, no one around these parts understands my pain.

Managed to get the spare on. Guess I'll be eating McDonalds breakfast in the dealership lobby tomorrow morning.

:(

Well, at least you're safe, so in that case... it can't all be bad luck!

Yea, and just remember it could be worse! You could've hit something more severe and crashed. Possibilities unknown

So not tooooo bad, but yes I feel you

DANG, R.S-HawK ...... that's a nasty break......:(

Good driving, to keep your machine under control and bringing it to a safe stop ...

With the exception of the tire and maybe the rim, do you suspect any other damage .. ??

I hope you get er fixed up soon and get back on the road.

:sigh: ...... that's one of the reasons I don't go to the gym and work out .... ;)

More lights is the answer, though I agree with humfrz... Nothing good can come from the gym. I hear of people getting hurt at the gym often and I try to avoid dangerous places like the gym and the ghetto.

Any body damage, or did the tire hold itself together well enough to avoid that?

TStafford 04-24-2014 09:28 AM

How many miles did you have on that tire? Had it ever been repaired? Did you run over something that caused it to blow?
Good luck with the fix and I hope the wheel is undamaged.

Thanks guys. I'm happy to be well. Replacing a $180 tire beats $20,000 worth of hospital bills.

Car is at the dealership while they sort out the road hazard warranty to replace the tire and inspect the body. There is no visible damage to the wheel or the car, so fingers crossed the underside is clear and no damage was done to the suspension.

Tire had about 10,000 miles. No repairs.

And yeah, I seem to have hit an object. No idea what it was, pitch black outside.

I hit a curb at about 40 mph with my Miata. I have to say I am impressed with that car's build quality (had the alignment checked, it hadn't been affected in the least), but it didn't do anything good for the RPF-1s on the right side of the car:

Why did you drive up a curb head on?

Driving way too fast in a parking lot I was "familiar" with, morning sun directly in my eyes, didn't realize the curb stuck out into the driveway, <just> hit the end of the curb:

Curb is lurking in the shadows:

Yeah, dumb. :bonk:

Final damage report is a torn tire and a broken wheel stud.

They had to order the wheel studs and the nut, so I will be stuck with a Prius V loaner for the weekend unless the parts arrive tomorrow. Tire was replaced under road hazard.

I would make sure everything is aligned, too, with that kind of damage.
