Anybody running Exedy stage 2 clutch?

There's 20+ threads with feedback from ACT/CM/Exedy stage 1 clutches but I havent found any info regarding Exedy's stage 2, 3 puck clutch. The stage 1 is holding a lot more wtq than its rated at, and stage 2 is rated at 25wtq higher.

Just wondering is anyone has used that clutch and can provide feedback from noise, pedal feel, and its true holding capacity?

Thanks

I too am curious about the stage 2. I'm maybe two months away from a clutch purchase and I'm looking at either this or the fx300/350 clutch/flywheel combo.

@Pneub just installed this, maybe he can give some feedback.

Pneub 04-23-2014 04:45 PM

Yup just got it. I unfortunately didn't see the clutch itself but I did ask if it really was a 3-puck and it is not. It's not full face but it's close and is more like an 8-puck design. Clutch feels really good so far. It did solve my ACT problems but we'll see if that stands up over time. The first few hundred miles the clutch disc didn't seem to want to hold onto the flywheel if I didn't give it enough gas and subsequently the car would shake/chatter until I fully released it. But a bit higher revs than the previous clutch and some time to break in seems to fixed it. Just took a bit to get used to. Clutch feel is nice. I like it more than the feel of the ACT or stock but it's not dramatically different. It's not very stiff at all. No issues with noise. Couldn't tell you what it's true holding capacity is as I'm only at 200tq myself. But I plan to get back up on the dyno and work on my torque curve soon If it shits itself I'll be sure to bitch about it somewhere on here.

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Anybody else have a little more time with this clutch?

alpine 05-21-2014 07:51 PM

bump I would like some info from anyone running this clutch as well

marcoaferrer 05-22-2014 02:43 PM

hows does this thing drive in traffic?

nelsmar 05-22-2014 03:35 PM

Ive been wondering about this clutch as well. Its interesting that it is being advertised as a 3 puck but isn't. I didn't purchase it for that very reason and ended up installing an ACT 6 puck. Mine is louder than two others I know of locally and not very friendly to drive. Seems like ACT has some inconsistency... I am tempted to pick one of these up and see how much it can hold. If no one finds out by the end of summer I may just pick one up.

It would be very helpful if a sticky existed where clutch upgrade experiences could be shared in one thread. Seems like results and issues are all over the board and pricing can vary from $500 to $2K. As power becomes more easy to come by the clutch decison is naturally going to be made more frequently as well.

Mine being installed next week and I'll post a thorough review.

As promised, I wanted to show everyone the latest Stage 2 Clutch Design from Exedy, which is different from their website.

any further updates of the Stage 2

Roxy86 07-14-2014 02:04 PM

This looks very similar to the Competition Clutch's segmented disc clutch.

marcoaferrer 07-24-2014 11:51 AM

@alpine is currently in the break in period on his. I'll be installing mine next week.

Just got mine in today. So far I've had the CM FX300 -> Exedy Stage 1 -> FX300 -> Exedy Stg1 -> Exedy Stg2.

The Exedy Stage 2 drives a lot like the Stg1, which is a lot like the stock clutch. The pedal pressure seems about the same as stg1, couldn't really tell a difference. There's more chatter, but not nearly as bad as the FX300. You can tell it's slightly grabbier, but still completely DD friendly. Happy with the first 30 miles I've put on it :)

Lordiron 03-19-2015 07:48 PM

any further updates of the Stage 2?

marcoaferrer 03-19-2015 07:49 PM

Piece of shit. And exedy won't stand behind it or help people with problems. Seen too many people get fucked by that clutch. My self included.

They will warranty/repair their products, but won't offer a refund.

Pretty standard practice after a period of time.

Simply contact them.

any part number on this?

How much stiffer is it than the stock clutch? I like the light stock clutch feel, but I recently burned my clutch so I ordered the stg 2 since I'm boosted at 250whp

Was there any grinding on deceleration?

Wow that sounds... weird. I'm not sure what an upgraded clutch sounds like, but that's a strange noise.

nope that is grinding, lw flywheel chatter mostly sounds like something lightly rattling.

Do you know what could be the cause? Its only when decelerating

Are you still using this clutch? OEM needs replacing but all I've read is that ACT and Exedy both have issues.. lol what does that leave us with as far as aftermarket. :iono:

What could cause it to grind? I did everything correctly and torqued everything up to spec..... I'm mad.

Dry pilot bearing, inproper install, glazing, tob incorrect install, bent fork, insufficient pressure plate.
When it is grinding can you feel it though the clutch pedal?
When dose it happen? Coasting? Accel, Decel? Idle

Only when I decelerate in gear. Don't hear it during idle. Don't hear anything during idle. Hear it when accelerating in fourth on low rpms tho. I don't feel the grinding.

Have you had a chance to see if it was grinding?

Suppose to meet up with someone who is more informed on these clutch tomorrow. Hopefully it's nothing major. I can take out the transmission again, I just don't want to go through the hassle again

A good source told me it was the springs on the clutch disc Because the noise stops when I pop it in neutral, or press on the clutch pedal

So do you need to replace the clutch or just grease them up? And at least it's not grinding or out of wack.

I was told that exedy clutch disks were notorious for this. He told me that if I were to remove the trans again to see what was up with the noise, all I would have to do is shake those springs to confirm that it is the springs.

It's normal. The only way to fix it is to get a better clutch kit. Oh well

Well shit...

Pneub 07-18-2016 01:42 PM

I just had this clutch fail on me after 30k miles. This is after my ACT clutch failed almost immediately. Not sure what the issue is with this car.

Edit: I had the Exedy stage 1 fail one me
