Replica Wheels

Can anyone provide insight on replica rims? I noticed these tempting ads

Other than reps being heavier than authentic rims, are there any other concerns?

They don't even offer a brand name. At least Rota changes the name of the wheel and makes it their own. I'd be leery about that. Those wheels are actually stamped Volk Racing. Those are probably real Volks that the guy took a picture of in the wheel shop.

Rota is as cheap as anyone should go in my opinion. I run rotas as a dd wheel. And they took a lot of weight to balance.

Yeh the rota grid is the Rota version of the 6 spoke TE design...and alot of people run them with no issues. Theyre not legit volk weight but theyre not bad...I would be leary of stuff like this though as post above the RAYS embossed logos are on there...probably just stolen pics....

The titan is rotas lightest wheel btw. A copy of the tc weds and what I run. If I end up tracking regularly ill get real ones for the track and dd the rotas. Man that would be really classy.

Oh i see. So I guess we should be wary of reps which dare to copy the stamps/stickers :confused0068:

gramicci101 04-23-2014 12:38 AM

You should be wary of replicas that don't even have their own name and use pictures of the namebrand wheels instead of their own. You'd probably get a box with a couple of bricks and a picture of a wheel. Stick with Rota, or for a few dollars more, get Enkei and get a better brand name. @WheelDude.com can help you out if you want to go with Rotas.

Theres always been reproductions with direct casting of a real wheel...

ft86er 04-23-2014 12:47 AM

:sigh: makes it harder to distinguish between the real ones

hotpanda1 04-23-2014 12:51 AM

this price could be per wheel lol

aSaki 04-23-2014 02:22 AM

There are exact replicas of the TEs and to be honest, you can't tell if its real or not. Hows the quality, who knows lol. Not saying that I'm buying them but tbh for daily drivers on normal roads who cares if its replica or real, $3500 vs $500 is a BIG difference, you can break 7 sets make it to the cost of the real ones XD

Fett4Real 04-23-2014 02:25 AM

weight...

wparsons 04-23-2014 11:53 AM

Regardless of what it's a copy of, I would be VERY suspicious of quality on any full set of brand new 18" wheels for $480 total.

I would rather run used legit wheels even if they are 10-15 years old than replicas IMO.
