Sell Celica for Different Daily Driver?

1 Attachment(s)
My '03 Celica is in great condition, but I love the feel of the GT86 and will not be using her as my daily driver. Celica does not seem to have a lot of feel, although as a daily driver I'm sure it is fine. Just under 100,000km on the Celica, but feel I might decide to sell and buy something more fun for a daily driver. Any thoughts on whether to just keep it or buy something different. I'm looking at videos, etc. on the S2000, MX-5, WRX...

Personally I'm having a really hard time understanding why you won't use the GT86 as a daily driver, especially since you are only considering similar cars as a daily driver purchase (similar in that insurance companies would see them about the same I'd guess).

None of those options are cheaper than a GT86/FR-S/BRZ so it isn't like the guys that buy a top of the line Corvette/Boss Mustang/Camaro and want to keep the expensive car with low mileage and just break it out for weekend drives.

The WRX is the only real four seater in the list so it isn't for added space.... Also isn't FWD vs RWD since S2000 and Miata are on the list. MPG can't be the reasoning either.

Why not stick with the Celica or only use the GT86?

I'm with @PSORngr on this one, of your list the 86 is the best DD in the bunch.

Sell the Celica for cash to pay off the 86 faster or buy parts. Not DDing the 86 is just strange

I'd get an SUV type car as a DD instead maybe not something so similar like all of those.

Just my thought process behind using the 86 as a DD...

The sh*ttiest time to be driving is your daily commute...traffic/idiots/on your way to work/etc. just makes it the worst part of the day...So why make it even worse and drive a piece of shit? Now that I DD my 86, getting stuck in traffic or the long country commutes are fun instead of a pain...Makes my day a whole lot shorter and much less painful

The 86 should be your daily driver. It gets good gas mileage, it's fun to drive, and it's reliable.

Why wouldn't you DD?

What everyone else says, DD the GT86 and sell the Celica for mods.

For a daily driver that you just want to relax/cruise in, I'd suggest something like a GT car with a bigger engine and a relatively comfortable interior.

For example, I've got a 350z which I enjoy daily driving over the FR-S for a couple of reasons:

- great-sounding, torquey engine
- smooth shifter
- good OEM stereo with/sub
- comfy leather seats w/seat warmers
- sporty enough handling and braking

Chad, my man… I'll put this nicely, what in the hell is the matter with you? What is your reasoning this time? First you're going to store it for 8 months out of the year, and now you're not going to drive the damn thing? I know you're still excited about getting a somewhat fancy new car, but stop acting like a 6 year old and drive the piss out of that thing. I need to lie down…

I have a better idea OP, you might actually be onto something. How about you garage the S2000, and you DD the Scion?

This...right...here.

I have to agree with what's been said here - why would you get an MX-5 or S2k as a daily driver when you have an 86? They're very similar cars, and if anything, the 86 is the more practical, better gas mileage, more comfortable car among those three (making it the better DD). I could maybe understand using an 86 as the DD and having an S2k as a weekend car, but not the other way around (and I wouldn't understand owning both an 86 and a Miata regardless of which was used for what). The WRX is definitely a more practical car, but that's clearly not the main motivating factor given your other choices...

DD the FR-S/GT86/BRZ, and get an S2000 as the weekend warrior. The S2000 is not a friendly daily due to fuel efficiency and size, but as a weekend driver and garage queen, it's a wonderful, powerful, beats-the-pants-off-the-86-except-in-practicality car.

LadyFRZ 04-22-2014 08:02 PM

I don't get why you're not thinking of DDing the twin.
It's plenty capable, plus, it was meant to be driven, and not a garage queen. Honestly, when I see twins just collecting dust, it makes me quite upset.
If you're looking at it to become "collectable" or something like that, you'd have to wait a long, long time. Long time.
