Help a friend make his Subaru purchase!

Hi:

I'm trying to help out a friend who moved to the states (Pennsylvania Zip Code 19343) and interested in purchasing a Subaru Impreza... trying to aid him in his decision but can't do much negotiation to help him out.

He is mainly interested in any AWD version and could go even go for the basic Impreza (with some dealer add ons). However, I'm attempting to get him to at least test drive the 2015 WRX, but declines insisting the temptation might be too great to resist.

Either way, I'm trying to dig out more info, but he basically told me availability is limited. In addition, there are additional costs (destination charge and cold weather package) which don't put him at ease.

Wonder if anybody on forum might be from that area and might give me some advice/suggestion/hints/options for me to relay to him. Any advice is well received.

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but he should look around, get a couple quotes and negotiate with other dealerships. You will get the best price from a larger dealership since they sell volume and are able to move more on price(usually). In addition, destination charges are standard on new vehicles and if he doesn't want the cold weather package, they should be able to do a dealer search and source a vehicle with the options he wants and do a dealer trade to get him a vehicle he wants. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It does help! Anyway to find/recognize these larger dealers? I'm thinking he needs to slow down and expand his search, since he has only gone to two local dealers, probably small due to low inventory

he can expand his search using cars.com and autotrader.com etc. also can do some negotiating via internet/email etc

Usually you won't know if it's a large volume dealership unless you personally see it yourself, but another way is to look at their inventory and see how many cars they have online, but I don't think it's necessary, just get quotes and try to see how low they can go. He should look at least 4, get quotes... take the lowest quote and contact the dealerships again saying he got a lower quote and if they can do better... rinse and repeat until you get to the dealership with lowest price :)
