Did you check with your insurance company?

Yes, insuring your car for a track day costs a bit of money. Note that your premium would have covered you for April 28-29 if you were staying for both days. The 9-event package is where the per-day price really starts to drop.

Still, paying $155 in case your car is seriously damaged or totaled is not a bad deal compared to coming up with $25K or so to replace the car. Nevertheless, most drivers don't bother with it, and it's unusual for a car to sustain serious damage at a DE.

most drivers don't bother with it ? so you are saying most drivers don't have this insurance for track days?:iono:

Heard someone say in another thread that their first few times on a new track they take the insurance because the chances are more likely then of making a mistake, then after a few times once they know the track well enough they stop. makes sense to me. of course there's nothing to stop the random event happening at any moment but that approach sounds reasonable.

I would say get the insurance or take it easy on the turns with little to no runoff.

I'm going to be with an Instructor the whole track time each lap, so my guess is that the Instructor will know what to do in order to keep it safe for my first day.

On the other hand, the more comfortable you are at the track, the more likely you'll push the car harder and increase the risk of an accident. It goes both ways I guess.

Yeah, I believe most drivers don't buy insurance or know about it. Most insurance companies will not cover it. Most drivers would probably just tow the car out or drive it into the ditch outside of the race track and report it to their insurance company as an accident. Obviously that's fraud but that's a completely different scenario.

That's the case at the events I attend.

Really, you should be fine in HPDE1; however, if you haven't been on a race track in a street car before, the insurance would certainly give you peace of mind.

I have a feeling those days are behind us; the companies seem to be aware of track days.

Personally, until I'm in a position where I can afford to replace my car if something happened, I get the insurance.

It's about right.

It's the same as taking out hazard insurance against virtually any profession or activity that is high risk.
