Different Camshaft Part numbers for 2014 model?
Was looking through the parts manual and found that the 2014 model year had different camshaft, cam gear, and valves part numbers. Anyone know the reason for the change in part numbers?

im not really sure why they have different parts numbers. the part # differences are not because of a supersession so i do not think there are any changes to the part. the only difference i can see between them is build dates, toyota does this when parts are built in different factories or first batch second batch. but i honestly have no real answer. this is just from my experience.
example - Intake cam gear RH SU003-00284 2012-03 to 2013-08 Intake cam gear RH SU003-05177 2013-07 to 2013-09 |
One of the motors we tore down from a donor had significant camshaft journal wear (cam only, not head) but no signs of oil starvation in the rest of the motor. I'm thinking there could have been a hardness issue. First year woes maybe.
