FR-S Head Unit in BRZ?
I love my new BRZ, but the nav screen is vastly inferior even to the unit in the FR-S, which I prefer because of its nicer physical buttons and less confusing nav and music menu systems. I was thinking of getting an aftermarket unit, but I'm not crazy about any of the options I've seen for that, and in any case, I really want to continue using the stock bluetooth mic.
So this might be a stupid question, but if I buy the head unit from a 2014 FR-S and stick it in my BRZ, shouldn't it basically work seamlessly? I.e., is there any reason why the stock bluetooth mic wouldn't work? Has anyone else done this, or thought of doing it? Thanks! -gatsbysghost |
I've thought about this, too. Here are some of our options:
-FRS navi unit ($400 - http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...+navi&_sacat=0) Pros/cons: (Maybe someone with an frs can speak to this?) -Nexus 7 (~$300 - source: lots of reading) Pros: Looks sweet, more functionality than any other head unit on the market, cheap, good sound quality, maps always up to date, very responsive touchscreen Cons: even FEWER physical buttons, need to tether your phone to use google maps, touchscreen issues in the winter -Aftermarket Navi ($expensive) Pros: Fast, good sound quality, up to date maps, responsive touchscreen, easy install Cons: Usually very expensive to get high-quality unit, will lose stock bluetooth mic I'm still really not sure what the best setup is, so I've gritted my teeth and kept using the OEM brz nav. Have no desire to pay +$1k for a good aftermarket, but also feel the nexus 7 install has issues that cannot be worked around. Maybe buying an FRS nav and selling the brz one would be the best option? |
So there's no adapter to hook the stock mic onto mini jack? Same for the USB and AUX inputs?

WHat about the Pioneer HU found in CDN models up to 2013..? mebbe an option..

My Subaru Head Unit is rebooting all the time. The dealer didn't even need to see it, the service tech just ordered a new one. That tells this has happened to many others.
Maybe wait till you head unit goes and you can just take the unit (tell them you will install it) then sell it online as new "in the box" and get some funds toward an new one................just a thought that I had, since I am questioning what the best way to go is at this point. |
