Not comming down under

Just went and spoke to the dealer close to mine and the sales person i spoke to said that toyota are not bringing them to australia because there isnt a market for this sort of car anymore, if they did bring it down it wouldnt be cost effective with having to have the parts here for at least 10 years from the release date(supposedly thats the law), and franchise laws phrohibit toyota dealers from importing one offs.

He said the best way would be to import one from japan... idk about you guys but i wouldnt go and import one coz then there would be no warranty and as i planned to have this as a Daily Driver, warranty is a big factor for getting the ft-86, i guess if i have the money when it comes out to get it as a race car i might buy it.

I still have a slight hope Toyota Australia comes to it senses and sees that there is actually a market for the ft.

no offense but i know a few dealers and 99% of the time they have no idea what they are talking about (in relation to cars that are coming here). they are just sales men, so i wouldn't be too worried JUST yet :p i will be woried when toyota sais that they aren't bringing it officially lol. but importing it personaly will make it cheaper than the price we would get here anyway (about 40-60% inflation)

well i hope your right for all of us who are waiting for it to come here

70NYD 06-25-2010 10:52 PM

me to mate, trust me. i have never wanted a car so badly b4

Calais 06-26-2010 12:35 PM

neither have i, the only time ive wanted a car this much was the first time i saw the mclaren f1(and that not entirely possible) this car is so attainable for me that im going to keep my pos corolla that has 330+km on it till this comes out jut so i can save money up

70NYD 06-27-2010 09:53 PM

haha u know mate thats the same way i felt about it (espec cus the F1 is the only other car that attracts me in any way, since its is one of the 1st ones to look that good, many other cars looked similar since, but thats just copying styling etc...) im graduating this year and was gonna get another car to replace my slow 323 (or turbo this one) but i decided to hold on as well since i saw pics of this car :D

Calais 07-14-2010 06:49 AM

Haha I'm definately not going to him I just found myself in there coz I went along for a mystery shopper thingo

70NYD 07-14-2010 10:09 AM

oh u lucky bastard, we get squat in brisbane :(

Calais 07-14-2010 10:57 AM

yea since the GFC theres only one show in australia a year and it alternates between syd and melbourneee. im considering going melbourne next year coz if the concept is here this yr theres a good chance the production model will be down there next year if its out by then.

the manufacturers were saying it was too much money to spend on australia coz it wasnt a big enough market. about 5 or so pulled out of the show that was on here last time.

seriously you trusted the dealers advice? I have worked at a few dealerships and they are almost always 100% wrong about what color options a car has on they own lot... or ect. They dont want to sell you a car in the future, they want to sell you one now!

70NYD 07-17-2010 04:32 AM

people trust dealers man, its a easy source in to the company.. although like i said i know a few dealers and they dont know squat.. i know more about the cars they sell than they do.. its kinda sad lol

but like i said IF they dont bring it in.. since the car will be 2000000Y or so base price (whatever they said it will be) it will be cheaper to get one from japan imported here as a personal as even AFTER all the costs fees etc the car will STILL be MUCH cheaper than if i bought it here cus we get a MASSIVE inflation (eg 370z costs 70000AUD roughly 60000USD which is 30000USD when bought in america.. HORIBLE inflation SHIT but toyotas cars get about a 60% inflation here) if the car is never released here, a personal import can be achived of a brand new out of the factory car as it is not a direct competitor for the market ;)

I am a dealer here from Melb Toyota Dealership company, my source told me that we definitely getting ft-86, alright. so no more guessing and stress out guys.
peace
