Toyota has announced a few modifications for the GT86 sports car in Europe for the 2015 model year, with the main updates involving handling and stability. Although the car was only introduced in 2012, the engineering team has continued development to further improve its dynamic characteristics.

The most important update consists of a more rigid fixation of the front suspension and the rear shock absorbers. The increased rigidity is exploited by the reworked shock absorbers, which provide a more stable damping and improved friction control, with Toyota claiming they deliver smoother and more communicative handling.

Body-roll is also said to be further reduced, and the steering feel is crisper than before.

Toyota says the suspension upgrade is aimed at making it easier for the driver to read the road, giving him all the confidence he needs to control the car, when it’s driven on the limit.

“There is no reason that development should stop, only because the vehicle has gone on sale. GT86 is all about driver involvement, and we are committed to keep enhancing this aspect of the car. The 2015 Model Year delivers the latest status of GT86’s continuous evolution,” said Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada.

Other updates include a new carbon-fiber motif dashboard insert, and the introduction of a shark-fin antenna. The latter is said to improve both looks and aerodynamics. Other exterior updates include the addition of two new paint colors, pearl white and silver. The 2015 MY Toyota GT86 will be available in Europe from summer.

That's the only thing of interest to me. I wonder will they allow upgrades to suspension components for older cars? (wishful thinking)

This reminds me of something, from a lo time ago people may have forgotten one of the key different tune out of the factory between the BRZ and the 86 was the suspension tuning. They toned the BRZ differently, I wonder if this will make the 86 closer to it, or it's totally different.

I was expecting to see changes for '15 with the recent buzz Tada-san made about it with this friends. He said the updates should be backwards compatible w/ older model years. Also, seems like the facelift won't happen in '15 but maybe '16 instead... we'll see.

An OEM shark fin antenna and hopefully improved reception is a plus.

I wonder what the guys thinking "I'll hold out for the boosted MY15" will do now :bonk:

I like the two black dash panels...a lot.

The OEM shark fin would be a nice upgrade. Guessing its going to cost $300, though.

And when I read about the improved suspension, all I hear is "stiffer," which means for DDers like me, rougher ride on streets. I'm good with my MY13 at this point :)

Hey, thats a TRD Sharkfin...worth at least $500. You can roll it in with financing though, so no big deal!

Devastating news for those who waited. Don't worry fellas, there's always waiting another year and a half.

Have you guys heard the rumors about the turbo option in 2016? It's apparently going to happen, 255+ horespower stock. We should probably just wait.

Did anyone notice the headliner is in a lighter grey color compared to the standard black we get in the US? :iono:
