STI replica kit

For those of you who ordered a sti replica kit. What are you guys using to paint the side skirts, front lip, and spats for an oem finish? Curious because I just got my diffuser in and would like it to match the oem finish.

Also have a sti replica front lip in the mail.

just a quick question off topic. Where did you get your replica kit?

MykeH78 04-15-2014 10:59 PM

I got a replica kit off ebay, I'm leaving everything black as that's how it is on the "real" JDM STI that I saw. Consequently it was the same color as mine. I might just do only a coat or two of clear just for added protection and aesthetics. The black looks good against the WRB paint of my brz I think. I went with the STI front lip, side skirts, rear aprons, oe style rear diffuser, and TRD style Trunk lip spoiler, the STI high back was too much I think.

I just got mine in as well. I'm probably going to sand it with a pretty fine grit, apply a primer, then coat them with either a semi-gloss of flat black spray paint.

Got my front lip and quality seems pretty shoddy. I know it's a replica, but didn't expect the finish issues. Jagged cuts around brackets and didn't realize the end pieces that screw into the fender well aren't really flush. Going to take some refinishing. Or might just wait for US sti lip soon

Issues with quality overall in my opinion one squared off bracket one rounded off. I know it's small but the devil is in the details. Cuts look all hacked up and sides looked tacked on.

Anyone else have these issues?

It's a replica. What did you expect?

Burrcold 04-20-2014 04:04 PM

That looks pretty bad. It's not the Bayson R kit is it? I thought the quality of that replica was pretty good.

So are my diffuser and rear spats and they look great.

Calidrifter 04-20-2014 04:08 PM

But those are smaller pieces. Normally with replicas the bigger the piece the more quality becomes an issue.

Wether true or not I'm glad it was cheap. Diffuser is a decent size but either way i understand your point.

I was planning to wait for USDM sti kit. Will order front lip once dealers get them in stock.

My previous experience with polyurethane lips was a good one. Again in retrospect it was a oem kit not a replica.

I'm not sure if all the vendors just distribute from the same mfr. this was a polyurethane kit from ebay but it wasn't directly from bayson r.

OEM is always the way to go. No way would I put that on. Best of luck touching it up though. Does not look like a ton of work to get it nicer. Granted most of that is under the car so not too big of a deal.
