FR-S Flood Car|| Help get running.
Hey guys,
I recently picked up a Flood car from Alabama to build into a nice street car for some video projects. I am trying to get the car running again to rebuild the title and am having issues finding out what is actually tied together with the immobilizer system. It seems like the front portion of the car had the worst of the flood so most of the computers need to be replaced. So, I have replaced all computers from another chassis except the Keyless remote/ TPM computer, which came from a different chassis. My big question is. What exactly needs to be replaced that is synced together? I am getting such mixed information online and the dealers are of no help. I can't figure out wether I need to replace all the computers from the same chassis or if it is only the Ignition, Key, ECU, and Dash that are synced. If somebody could clarify it would be greatly appreciated. |
Hi Ryan,
Nice to see you on our forums! Best of luck with this project. Wish I could be of more help, but you're question is above my pay-grade. Hope you have another great season this year. |
just try using the original ecu's first. It's quite possible that once an ecu is flashed to a particular car it may never work in a different one.

Do you have any pics of this project car?

I hate to be a downer, but I personally witnessed a flooded BRZ:
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps67dcd373.jpg That car was so full of mud that I considered it a complete loss and was hoping that it was never resold as a drivable car. There was mud in places that made me positive that there was mud all through the car (the front hood weighed about 40 pounds). I hope that the one you got was not this one. It will never be the same. |
You will need to get a scan tool with the capability of programming a module and for immobilizer, BAD part is that you will need a TECHSTREAM to do the latter part.

Guys,
Thanks for the welcome. I will post pics when I start a build thread on here in the next month or so. Right now it's just stock with a beat up interior. Luckily the mud didn't get to this car looks like it was just soaked in water. Quote:

Subaru part#: 88801CA041 SMT MAIN ECU ASSY - Keyless Access Control Unit We also replaced the immobilizer and key to be on the safe side. All of which needed to be reprogrammed (the immobilizer/key and the keyless access control unit). Do you plan on keeping he FA20 or swapping engines? Be sure to check the fuses, battery, and of course the fluids (oil, brake, trans, etc,.) to make sure they are not contaminated with water/soiled. Keep us posted. Quote:

Wiring harnesses would be a really good place to start. You are likely to be chasing problems both early on, and later if you don't ensure they have not been compromised.

Got techstream 7 off internet and used my tactrix adapter, but ones off ebay for $30 work fine and come with software search for techstream on ebay. Unfortunatly as previous poster mentioned you going to have problems with wiring harnes as well i would pull every connector and clean with contact cleaner and crc or wd40. Past experience with electronics that been wet while powered up would say your in for a lot of niggly intermittent problems due corrosion electrolysis damage ect. That generally why they write them off. good luck :) |
Copy that. Thank you for the info guys. I have a spare engine bay harness I will be installing over weekend. Seems like it ties into quite a bit of what's under the dash as well. I also have a diagnostics guy coming next Tuesday who seems to be very knowledgeable. Fingers crossed it all works the first time. I really only need to get this car running to get the title rebuilt. Then it is time to tear it down and rebuild her into something sweet.

Does anybody know where exactly the Keyless Remote ECU is located on the car?
|
Probably on top of the rear deck. I think that's where most cars have it?
Edit: here's a thread where someone helpfully circles and points the keyless module out: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...15&postcount=5 |
