Oil leak after my first oil change.. WTF?
So i got my first Oil change on my scion FR-S and now im leaking oil....
I know the cam plate oil leak is happening.. in the passenger side. but this oil leak is happening right under the engine... WTF? is the problem? well, going to dealer on friday to check it out.. Anyone had this problem yet? |

common. Same thing happened to me, but I knew immediately what it was from my WRX experience. The stock crush washer is painted on to the drain plug. I pried it off with a small screw driver and gave the service manager an ear full.

Check to make sure you either a) have a SINGLE new crush washer installed on the drain plug and/or b) have not stacked the single new crush washer on your old crush washer.

Buy and install a Fumoto Qwik valve.

I had an oil leak on my last oil change. Got my ratchet and socket on the drain plug and gave it a light tug tighter. No more oil coming from the pan.
Next oil change I'm out of my free ones. I have a Fumoto valve going on and putting in full synthetic. |
I second on Fumoto valve as well if you do your own oil change.

After 4hours toyota mechanic working on my car.. he forgot to replace the crush washer... so after he replaced it, no leak...
Arent the dealer mechanic... certified mechanic...? how are they making rookie mistake? |

I recommend not bringing your car into the dealership to do any maintenance. Save yourself the trouble and do it yourself. When the time came for my 15k miles maintenance, I was very indecisive about taking my car into Toyota because of all the bad reviews. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and took my car in after putting a small mark on all the parts to make sure they did their job.
About an hour later, I pick up my car to find a ton on oil splatters in the engine bay and on the aluminum heat shield under the car, topped off my radiator coolant way above the "FULL" mark, AND I have a good feeling they used TWO crush washers on the oil drain plug. Never again will I bring my car into the dealership... |
For the guys doing your own maintenance and are under warranty still, just make sure you keep a detailed log of everything you have done and have itemized receipts for all the parts/purchases. When I used to change my own oil, and had engine issues with a Nissan, the dealer asked me for the itemized receipts and I was able to show them to him along with a detailed log that recorded dates, how much oil I added, and what mileage. He told me without that info they would have denied my warranty claim.
